Hi,

We’re using EE4 this year for our festival again (this Friday, Australian time). This year I have installed the QR code scanner.

I am doing some testing and I am having an issue. Here is the log:

1) It is a 3 day ticket for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
2) I open my EEHD app, select the event, select the day as Friday. Then I scan.
3) I had continuous on so it scanned the ticket (checked them in), scanned the ticket again (checked them out)
4) then I moved to check in again and scanned the same ticket for the same day. The error I got is: the big red exclamation mark at the bottom saying Registration is denied.

My Question here.

Is this a normal scenario because I already checked them in and checked them out? What if these people wanted to leave the festival and come back a few hours later?

Now, I continued thinking the above would be normal

5) I can check them in for Sat
6) Then I checked them out and in this scenario they became orange
7) then i checked them in again and it actually worked (but it didn’t work on Friday, I got the red screen instead).

Please help!Happy to give you admin logins to try.

No that’s not actually normal if the app was in Continuous scanning mode the whole time. If the app gets switched over to Check-in Only mode then you’ll see the Registration is denied message if already checked in.

Hi Josh,
As per point 3) and 4) I had continuous scanning on that checked in and out, then moved to check in and that didn’t check them in. To confirm the registration denied message appeared once they were checked out, via the continuous scanning.

How do you propose I fix this issue? Would you please keep in mind I am in Australia so there are 24h almost between each of our answer.

Do you have a caching plugin with database caching activated? If so, you’d deactivate the database caching feature and that will fix the issue.

Is this happening every time you go to scan to check in and check out the test tickets?

No, only when I follow the steps I did list above Josh.

That’s actually what I was asking. So if you follow those steps, do you always get a registration is denied when you try to check the registration back in?

That’s right. 🙁 but when I checkin for the next day it works

Also Josh, is this documentation still correct? It says if more than 100 attendees i need to changes settings. No such settings in the app settings, only camera access. Is there a latest documentation? My event is in 10h.

The documentation you linked to is for Event Espresso 3’s app, which is a completely different system.

This is the documentation for the Event Espresso 4 app:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-event-apps/

I’m really puzzled why the app is giving you a registration is denied message only when checking back in, and only for the Friday date time. If I understand what you wrote earlier, you’re able to check a ticket in/out/then back in for the Saturday date time OK?

Can I give you admin access for you to test pls?

Could it be the combination of using continuous and check in only?

You can send those by completing the secure form on this page:

Absolutely, and I mentioned this in my initial reply:

If the app gets switched over to Check-in Only mode then you’ll see the Registration is denied message if already checked in.

Thanks

Re:
If the app gets switched over…. I had actually checked them out with continuous mode, then checked them in again with check in. So should have worked?
Giving you acces now

No that will not work. You’ll need to keep the app in continuous mode to allow checking in, checking out, then checking back in. If you put the app into check in only mode, it will not allow checking back in.

Right so that is the issue.
I’d prefer not to use continuous mode as I will have volunteers checking people in and if they stay on more than a mili second after they’ve scanned (on continuous) it will check ppl out again.

So do i tell them never to use continuous mode and just check in mode?

If they only use check in only mode you will not be able to check people out then back in again.

I went in and removed all the checkins from that test ticket, put the app in Continuous mode and checked the ticket in, then out, then back in. I did not get a registration is denied message. Then I put the app into Check in only mode and scanned again, and got the registration is denied message, and that’s expected because the ticket had just been checked-in.

So if you’re going to be checking tickets back in, it’s important to verify that the last scan was a check out. You can switch the app to Look up mode to verify the current status.

Thanks

put the app in Continuous mode and checked the ticket in, then out, then back in.

I understand this but what i did is checked them in and then out in continuous THEN i tried to check them in manually. In my logic it should have worked as they were ‘out’.

I went in and removed all the checkins from that test ticket,

How do you do that?

So if you’re going to be checking tickets back in, it’s important to verify that the last scan was a check out. You can switch the app to Look up mode to verify the current status.

I get that, but as per my initial query they were ‘out’ before i tried to manually check them in.

I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue on your site, so I wonder if they were really out. Here’s what you can do if you run into any issues with the “registration is denied” message: You switch to the “Look up” mode and verify the status first. You can even manually check in/out from the Look up mode.

How do you do that?

You can remove check in records for individual registrations by logging into the WP dashboard, then go to Event Espresso > Registrations > Check ins then select the event and filter the date time. Then look up the registration, click on the view link, and you’ll see a list of all the check in and outs, where you can delete them.

I get that, but as per my initial query they were ‘out’ before i tried to manually check them in.

That’s not what happened when I tested the scanning app on your site.
