Hey,

It looks like the the promotion is not being applied before taxes…

https://ibb.co/emztMQ

If you look at the screen cap, you will see that the cost is $1,295.00 before taxes, so the event total should be $497.50 before taxes. However with the discount applied it looks like it’s taking the total with taxes included ($562.25)

Now we have the promotion settings set to “Yes” under the promotions affect taxes, so it should be working but we can’t figure out why it’s not.

Any idea’s why this isn’t be working.

Let us know if you need anymore details from our end.

Hi there,

It doesn’t look to me like you’ve actually set up taxes. Did you set up a percent surcharge amount instead? Normally when you set up a tax in Event Espresso > Pricing, then check the box for “This ticket is taxable”, it clearly labels the amount as including tax. The other question I have is what’s set for the Half Price Promotion amount?

I had to setup custom taxes. In Canada we have PST (Provincial) and GST (Government) sales tax. The Provincial sales tax varies depending on what province you’re in.

I don’t see a check box with “This ticket is taxable” on the event setup…

The promotion is setup using the dollar amount of -797.5.

Do i have my taxes setup incorrectly?

No, I’m afraid those really are not set up as taxes. The setting in Promotions add-on for “Promotions Affect Taxes” will not apply to surcharges.

I’ll need to look into this a bit further to see if there’s a way to use Surcharges as Taxes in the way you’re trying to use them. Or if there’s a way to apply those different provincial taxes for different events.

I appreciate you looking into my issue further. Do you have any recommendations of what i can do in meantime?

Hi Tyler,

May I ask does the PST surcharge you have set up apply to all events, or only the ones that happen in the particular Province where some of the events occur?

Hey Josh,

PST and GST are applied to all event. PST varies depending on what Province you’re in.

How is that varying on your site though? You only have one PST surcharge amount set up in that screenshot there, correct?

We have the GST and PST setup on the event itself…

https://ibb.co/m6jk1Q

Depending on what Province the event is taking place in, we will set the PST accordingly.

Thanks for the clarification, and we’re looking into a way to make it so the PST can be applied as a tax to specific events. In the meantime there’s a workaround that you can use to offer the discount of $797.50 so the ticket total is $497.50 before the surcharges are applied.

The workaround involves setting up an additional ticket option priced at $497.50, then hiding it on the event page, then making another page that shows only that ticket option.

This also involves adding some PHP code into a site specific plugin, and you can follow the code example here:

Thanks Josh, I’ll give this a try.
