We have a promotion code set to $50 off the total. When someone uses it towards a total more than $50, it is making the balance $0.00. So they are getting the difference for free. It is not subtracting the discount amount and asking for the balance due. |

Hi Dorian, If I understand correctly, then I think the issue is that the promotional codes discount on a per ticket basis, not on the total. So if your tickets are $25 each and 5 people buy tickets, it will still be free as the promo code is discount $50 off of each ticket (it wont go negative so reverts to 0). |
no… Say a class is $35.00 and someone books 2 seats. The total is $70. When they use the code for $50, it zeroes it out instead of having a $20 balance. The coupon codes work fine for booking 1 seat. |

Hi, Perhaps the best way to check this is if you can give a link to an example event and a copy of the discount code. |
https://masterpiecemixers.com/event-registration/?ee=296 Add another attendee to make it $70. Use coupon code GROUPONTEST (It is a $50 code) |

Hi Dorain, As Dean mentioned Event Espresso applies the discount per ticket rather than to the total. So if your tickets are $25 and you apply a promo code of $50. The promo is more than the value of the ticket and therefore the ticket becomes 0.00 So then if each ticket is that price, this will happen for all tickets within the registration. I’m assuming from the Coupon Code you provided above this is a Groupon promo, do you have a single code to be used by all attendees? |
You guys are missing it. If you register for an event, you can add attendees which makes the price higher. So if a class is $35.00 and you add an attendee under you, it goes to $70 at checkout. Using the $50 promo code should then make the balance $20 owed. Instead it is making it $0.00. |
Any update? |

Try to register for an event that is $35…most of them are. Use TEST2 ($50.00 off) for the promo code. Add an additional attendee. You will see when you go to the next page it does not ask for the $20.00 difference. |

Hi, That’s correct. The promo code of $50 is per TICKET, not per total. So the $50 is taken off of each ticket. As your tickets are only $35 each, then the ticket becomes 0 (as they cannot become -$15). |
Well that is going to cause a huge issue. Why would it not just do the total? I am sure they not the only company who can has multiple attendees register at once and use a coupon. They run Groupons all the time with this promo and now cannot use it. They are not going to be happy with this answer. Is there not a way to take it off the total? |
Hi Dorian, There is, but since that’s not what Event Espresso does by default (it’s programmed to discount per ticket) it would require custom development. I need to check with a third party developer who’s modified this to see what would be involved to add this on to Event Espresso 3. I’ll update this post on what I find. |
My customer just informed me that they want to run another promo which does the same thing. When they add attendees at checkout it has to be able to take the promo code off the total and not the ticket. They are asking me what is going on and I have nothing to tell them. |
Hi Dorian, You can pass along the information that I gave you: A feature like this requires some custom development by someone who knows their way around PHP and WordPress development because Event Espresso’s promo code feature was programmed to discount tickets, not entire orders. |
They were not happy with that answer. They are blamming me for choosing a calendar system that will not do what they want….I dont blame them. You have an option to add additional attendees, but you cannot use a coupon to take it off the total. That should be an easy fix. Also, how come you cannot add a coupon to the additional attendees? |
Ok, I also tried this. Having it to where there is one person that signs up but adds say 3 additional tickets for an event that is $25 per ticket. (I assume this is the group registration) The sub total is then $100.00. We have a coupon for $50 off total. So after adding the promo code, the balance should be $50 owed. It still zeroes out the total. |
Hi Dorian, When you enter a promocode during the registration, Event Espresso’s promo code system discounts each ticket. Promo codes do not get applied to the total order. This means a promocode that is valued at $50.00 will zero out a $25.00 ticket. |
So how are they supposed to run a groupon special for couples and apply to a class? There is no way to do this then. They would have to have 2 – $25 coupons and register twice which is double the work. |
Hi Dorian, The promo codes can be set for a dollar amount like you have or a percentage. You could make the promo code for %50 off and would accomplish what you are looking for, however, the Volume Discount add-on may be more suitable. You can find this add-on in the Pre-Release Channel on your EE profile page. The Volume Discounting add-on allows you to set thresholds for discounting when people purchase multiple tickets or register for multiple events. So if your discount only applies when 2+ people register, then this would be they way to go. Here is an example: http://www.screencast.com/t/rkG9VcNAMv |
