The other forum post you linked to has some code that worked with Event Espresso 3 only. They way it worked was it pre-populated the promo code field on the registration form. Since Event Espresso 4 is different in that the promo code field isn’t on the registration form step, I’m afraid that code cannot be adapted to be used with Event Espresso 4.
So is there any way to append a promo code in a URL? If not, can that be included in an update. I feel it would be very useful for myself and other businesses trying to create Affiliate Programs…
Also, I purchased the WPAffiliates Event Espresso Plugin for $50, but was disappointed that I had to also purchase their produce for $100. I feel a simple affordable plugin for logging promo codes is all I really need and to spend $150 does not feel right… Thanks..
There isn’t a way to append a promo code to the URL, and really the affiliateWP integration doesn’t use Promo codes. Instead, it uses an affiliate URL string appended to end of the event URL. So for example if you have an affiliate ID of 123, the affiliate’s URL for the event would look something like this:
yoursite.com/events/name-of-event?ref=1
With regards to pricing, I’m sorry you’re disappointed. It might help to compare the cost of the two plugins to what it would cost to build a bespoke solution that integrates with Event Espresso. For example, before the Event Espresso AffiliateWP integration was built, anyone needing an affiliate tracking system that worked with Event Espresso would need to hire a PHP developer (or several) to build a custom solution for them, which can cost quite a bit more than $150.
