Hello, I have tried this with contacts and events; when click “export” I go to a url, I do not get a download dialog. The url is http://actuary.eu/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_events&action=export_events&EVT_ID=1824&export_events_nonce=ff19a93d69 Secondly can I download an event along with registrants and questions/answers? The file I have on screen just has the event settings. thanks, |
I also get the same problem when I clcik to export registrants – which looks like the file I need (see first question) if I want a list of all registrants at an event along with their questions/answers. Appears as a screen full of text in CSV fomat. |

Sorry I realised you have to be logged in to view the links I posted, I cut and paste into another file so it can be viewed: http://actuary.eu/csv.html |
Hi, Your web browser may be loading the file instead of downloading it to your computer. What browser are you using? — |
It happens with Firefox, Chrome and IE. I can see the URL when I hover the mouse over the “export” link. |
Hello, Could you ask your webhost to set the server to download files instead of loading them through a web browser? See the first example here: http://css-tricks.com/snippets/htaccess/force-files-to-download-not-open-in-browser/ — |

Hello Lorenzo, I don’t think that is the problem – As I mentioned in the post above the link is pointing to a URL not a .csv file. All other links in WP admin are fine. |
Hi Robert, The software creates the CSV on demand so you won’t actually see a direct link to a CSV file when you hover over the button. Does that make sense? I found a site that I will think explain the issue: http://www.lasalle.edu/~blum/c341wks/CSVwithHTACCESS.php BTW: I appreciate your kind comment! — |

Hello again! Still no joy, same thing happens after I add “AddType application/octet-stream .csv” to .htaccess whish is in my WP root. Tried in 3 browsers. If you email me with a reply to address I can send a login which might be best, I need this to work for me asap please. |
This may be a setting on your server. Have you checked with your web host? — |

I did the obvious – made a post with a link to a csv file and it works as intended. http://actuary.eu/csv-test/ The link to export registrants/events are still just loading a page full of csv file. It still seems that the admin link is wrong, have you guys actually installed and tested the function on a current WP installation? |
Hi Robert, Yes we have tried it on the latest WP and Event Espresso and it does indeed work as intended. I compared the URL you originally linked with the ones on our test systems and they have the same structure. As such it will either be the server settings or potentially it could be a plugin or the theme interfering. Have you tried disabling the other plugins temporarily (except EE) to test if that affects anything? |
Hi, yes I have just tried deactivating all plugins – same error I’m afraid. I still don’t see how a link to a page is going to open a file download dialog. http://actuary.eu/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_registrations&EVT_ID=1824&action=registrations_report®istrations_report_nonce=b121bd3998&return=default |
Hi, From my test server: Single event registration list The link is actually linking to a php file that fires the code to create and download the file. The page=espresso_events is a misnomer as that only indicates the page you are actually on. |
Thanks Dean but I can’t reach your server – When I view source of the page of text I am getting it is neatly formatted – that is readable and not just a long string. |
Hi Robert, No, you wont be able to reach my server and it shouldn’t matter, I posted them there as a comparison to your own, and as you can see your links are correct and not malformed. The bottom line, is that your site should be downloading the CSV files and not opening them. The fact the links are fine and that you tests with plugins disable suggests that this is most likely a server issue. Have you spoken to your hosts regarding the problem? Also have you tried with a different theme (a default one such as TwentyFourteen) just to rule that out as well? |
I can’t see switching themes making a difference to WP satandard admin only the front end surely? I am speaking to my hosts but I don’t want them in my WP admin area – is it possible for me to aend them a php script to run please? If so which one. |
This isn’t a setting in the WordPress admin. Rather its related to how the server is set up. I recommend contacting your host and showing this link to them: http://www.lasalle.edu/~blum/c341wks/CSVwithHTACCESS.php They should be able to apply the necessary changes so that your site downloads CSV files instead of loading them in a browser. — |
