I am trying to set up an event to be private so that only logged-in members can see the event listed on the calendar. When I set the Visibility of the event to “Private” it turns the Active Status to Inactive. Changing the Active Status to either Public or Password Protected results in the event going back to Active. How do I set up the event visibility to be Private while having the event remain active?

Hi Alan,

Although the event shows the status as inactive when it has been privately published, your users should still register onto that event.

If you view the privately published event can you register onto it?

If I try to view the event from a non-Administrator account, I get a 404 error for the page.

I would be probably be even happier if I could just keep the event off the calendar display so I could send people a private link without having to set them up to login to the site, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to tell the calendar to not display certain events or categories of events.

I just need a way to set up registration for events that I only share with a select audience and that isn’t listed on the public calendar.

You can tell the calendar to not display a specific event by adding something like this to your custom stylesheet:

#espresso_calendar a[href*="private-event-name"] {
display: none;
}

Then if you want to restrict access to the actual event page’s information and ticket selector (in case it shows up in Search Engine results or something), you can set it to be password protected and send along the password to your select audience.

That removed the event from the calendar but not from the Upcoming Event widget. What is the syntax to hide it from the widget as well?

It’s:

#ee-upcoming-events-widget-li-12345 {
  display:none;
}

where 12345 is the event ID.
