Hello,
We are interested in purchasing Events Espresso EE4, but have a couple of questions before we make our decision (we are a non-profit organization for senior people with approx. 6.000 members).
Our aim is to have a system that control bookings for trip/event attendees. These attendees record their participation in 3 ways: Online, by mail or by visiting the booking Office. The large part of the attendees are of an age over 60 years and not computer minded. The main reason for having these different access ways.
Because of these different ways of recording (yearly 5.000 entries of which 40% are off-line), we are giving all attendees a random number (between 0 and 1) and after closing the trip/event participation, the random number is used to find the selected amount of attendees, where the remaining parts are recorded on a waiting list.
Is it possible to use such a random number within the primary registration?
Because of the many off-line registrations, we are in need of an import facility. We are also interested in using Quick Pay and My Page. We have noticed that these facilities exist within EE3, but as mentioned before, we are actually more interested in version EE4, where these facilities does not exist. Is there a possibility that these requests are solved in version EE4 within the coming 6 month?
Please advice.
Best Wishes
Peter and Steen

Hi Peter and Steen,

How are you today?

I’m not positive I understand, so let me restate.

You want to add/enter a random number with each registration? Is that random number automatically assigned or is it entered manually?

We are working on the Import functionality in Event Espresso 4.

Quick Pay or My Page are not on our development schedules at this time.

Hi Garth,
We thank you for a very quick response.
To clarify our questions we like to state the following:
Yes, the required random number should be generated automatically when an attendee is entering a registration. It’s only the primary registration that should be identified by a random number.
Sorry, the Quickpay gateway appears on the EE3 Option page, but it’s not on EE4?
Again, our mistake, we used a wrong name but we mean: My Event page as in WP User Integration add on as supported in EE3 but as it seems not in EE4.
Best Wishes
Steen & Peter

Hi Steen and Peter,

Event Espresso 3 would be a better fit as it has support for QuickPay along with waitlists and a My Events page on the front-end.

The random number option as related to registrations could be possible with custom coding by a developer.

We do have some professionals that could provide an estimate on adding this functionality to Event Espresso 3:

Hi Lorenzo
Thanks for the replay, but we have planned to make the changes ourselves. We have investigated the problem and found that we could use a question field to register the random number.
We have chosen a question field because the information stored in the random number is not used anywhere else in our usage of EE3. The random numbers are only to be used for establishing an even situation concerning our off-line users registration compared to the registration by attendees using internet.
After having investigated your support forum we planned to make the corrections in the template registration_page.php where we find and update the field in question_group array.
Is this correct and is it possible and by the way is there an action hook we can use for this?

Hi Peter,

I’m not sure that would work. I took a look and couldn’t see any appropriate hooks or filters that would add the data to the database (EE4 has many more hooks/filters than EE3) – of course you could add the data directly to the database via a generic hook.

Thinking about it, it might be easier to append the info onto the registration ID. This won’t affect anything so long as the reg ID’s stay unique.

We have a small guide on how to modify the reg ID’s here: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/create-custom-registration-id/

Hi Dean
Thanks for your reply which made us see a new way to solve our problem in an easy and clean way.
It was our last outstanding problem and we will now begin to acquire EE3 Business License.
Feel free to close this thread.
