A client has asked for some functionality added to their site and I’m hoping you can tell me if Event Espresso is equipped to do these things, either by itself or with add-ons. This is a partial list of their questions/needs, but these are core things they’re asking about:

When current members/users register for an event, their info should auto-populate from WP user account info.

In order to register applicants must answer several essay questions
▪ Users need ability to upload a word document w/ the essay answers –
▪ Site should have a word doc with questions already included that user can fill out and then upload.
◦ Need ability to track when a person registers AND manually track who actually attends the event
• Within each event admin ability to track when users have turned in or uploaded materials such as a parental consent form

More:

Are Contact Profiles built into Event Espresso or is that an add-on? Either way, can a person with a profile register for events by possibly just entering their email address instead of all profile info?

Lastly (for now): What are the options available to tie Event Espresso registration and/or Contact Profiles to Constant Contact?

Hi Dan,

How are you today?

– The WP User Integration will allow you to restrict events to only registered accounts, or let people create accounts upon registration. https://eventespresso.com/product/eea-wp-user-integration/
– The EE4 registration process does not facilitate document uploading (for security purposes). You could provide text boxes for them to enter their answers to essay questions.
– Contact profiles are built into Event Espresso. A First Name, Last Name and Email Address are required for each profile.
– We have a integration with MailChimp, but not Constant Contact. If you require a Constant Contact integration, we can share information about sponsoring that development.

Does that help?

Thanks for the info. I am wondering about Event Espresso “Contact profiles”. This is a custom post type, I assume, and not a WordPress User Profile? We need a way to put an expiration date on profiles, which we can do using WP profiles, but wouldn’t know how to do that with Contact profiles.

Hi Dan,

Can you describe your situation and how/when you would want to put an expiration date on those profiles?

Garth,
Using a plugin like Expire Users we can allow a student to be a member of a site until they graduate. We’re looking into options for these students registering for events, and once they’ve graduated they’re no longer able to register. Thanks for answering my questions. It’s very helpful.

Hi Dan,

The Event Espresso Contacts do not function like the WP User. They do not receive a login or access through the Event Espresso Contacts. The Event Espresso Contacts are primarily for record keeping and retaining personal information and registration details for your attendees.

As far as I can tell, I would still require people to be “members” and logged-in to their WP User account before they can register, or use a certain capability to see tickets, etc.) and use Expire Users to restrict access until they graduate.

Does that make sense?

Makes sense, yes. Thanks for the info!
