Hi guys,

I edit your language file using POEdit. Had no problems replacing all the strings I needed to. I used the instructions from your Wiki (https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-change-wording-with-poedit/#plugins) however there are some issues –

1) It say to place the generated .mo file in the /wp-content/uploads/espresso/languages folder. This folder does not exist by default. So I’m not sure if you’ve moved it since the wiki was written and it’s somewhere else, or if I’m supposed to create the folder (if so, may wish to add this to the wiki).

2) Creating the languages folder where your wiki says it should be, and uploading the .mo file (and completing the additional steps in the wiki) results in no changes to the text on the website.

Could you update me on the newest way to make these changes? Thanks.

(Using latest EE4 release, latest WP release)

Hi Greg,

1) Event Espresso should create that directory by default on install, I will investigate this and update this thread shortly.

2) Can you tell me the exact filename of the translation file your are currently using please?

Sure, the filename is event-espresso-4-en.mo.

My install contained these folders in /wp-content/uploads/espresso:

css, gateways, logs, templates, themeroller, tickets

Looks like you migrated from EE3 to EE4 is that correct?

The filename ‘event-espresso-4-en.mo’ is actually incorrect.

Event Espresso 4 checks for event_espresso-*locale*.mo, so in order to translate strings for a default en_US install you’ll need to rename that file to:

event_espresso-en_US.mo

I would recommend renaming the .po file to this also, as then the .mo will automatically generate with the correct filename.

I have created a ticket to update the wiki post you linked above to make this a little clearer as currently it does not mention any of the above.

Tony,

No – always had EE4.

But thanks for your help. Renaming the file to what you said worked!

Hi Greg,

Thanks for confirming. We are checking into some options for making this easier to get started with (e.g. not needing to rename files).
