I have been using the open source version for a few months to be sure that it would do the job for me….I just purchased a license and when I updated the plugin using the purchases support key, I get a plugin file does not exist, and the plugin is deactivated! the site is https://binnaclehouse.org/
I can’t activate the plugin either….Pls help!

Hi there,

It sounds like the update failed and WP left the directory in place.

You’ll need to remove it from the site and reinstall.

If you go to Dashboard -> Plugins.

Find Event Espresso in the list and delete it (your event/registration data is stored in the database and will NOT be removed when you do this)

Then go to your account page and download Event Espresso from your download section to your machine.

On the site go to Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add new -> Upload plugin.

Select the .zip you just downloaded and activate.

You may need to run migrations when you do this update, just follow all of the instructions on the page until the migrations are complete, do not click to skip them or EE will start fresh with no data.

(You may not need migrations, but EE will show a message on the page if you do).

I updated WP and then just for laughs, I tried the EE automatic update process again. It worked…..do you think this is ok? or should I remove the plugin and do a fresh install?

No, that should be fine.

When you update a plugin within WordPress it deletes the current copy of the plugin, downloads the ‘new’ version and extracts the directory in place of the original.

So if something does wrong its usually obvious, either the plugin won’t activate or doesn’t show in the plugin menu but won’t let you reinstall (because the directory still exists), as it sounds like you don’t have either of those issues you should be fine.
