Trying to install EE for the first time and got this error when I clicked activate: “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.” Any idea what to do?

Hi Elizabeth,

This can happen if the WordPress installation is older than version 3.6. It this is the case, you can update to the latest version of WordPress and try installing again.

If you have the current version of WordPress and get a fatal error when activating Event Espresso, it could be another plugin that already is declaring a function that’s named exactly the same as Event Espresso. You can find out if that’s the case by checking the website’s error log using FTP or your host’s control panel.

Thank you! We were apparently using 3.5
Updated and it’s all set!
