When I look at my list of plug-ins, Event Espresso is listed with the word “Activate” greyed out. If I click on it, the message I receive is as above: “Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.”

The details include: “Warning: require_once(C:\Inetpub2\Pathfinder/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/templates/event_list.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Inetpub2\Pathfinder\wp-content\plugins\event-espresso\includes\functions\main.php on line 1170 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘C:\Inetpub2\Pathfinder/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/templates/event_list.php’ (include_path=’.;C:\php\pear’) in C:\Inetpub2\Pathfinder\wp-content\plugins\event-espresso\includes\functions\main.php on line 1170”

I have no idea what is going on.

Hi Jim,

It may be that the your download is missing a few files. Can you try re-downloading and re-installing the software?

If the event_list.php file is there, then it may be a file permissions issue, and your host may be able to help straighten this out.

We received the priority support token and are now looking into this further.

It’s definitely failing to upload all the files via the WP plugin manager. I’m uploading the files now via File Transfer Protocol. Please stand by.

To re-download Event Espresso and re-install it, do I delete it first?

Normally, yes. But in this case please stand by and do not delete it as I’m in the middle of working on re-installing it right now.

It looks like I’m good to go. Two questions.
First, how might this have happened? Did I do something?
Second, I’m going to create an event that consists of 8 sessions spread over 20 weeks. I know I had a hard time doing this the only other time I’ve done it and that I’d seen you had answered lots of questions on the subject. Can you direct me to your best instructions on the subject so I can start out on the right foot? Thanks for your help.

It looked like someone had deleted some of Event Espresso’s files. They simply were not there.

With your other question, it depends on whether you want people to sign up one time for all eight sessions, or if you want people to be able to sign up for only some of the sessions.

If it’s one sign up, you create one event for all eight sessions. Otherwise, you can use the Recurring Events manager to create eight different events that people can sign up for:

This is a single event with 8 sessions. Participants will register once for the entire series. As I understand it, that means it is NOT a recurring event. Also as I understand it, in the EE calendar, it will only show up as an event on its start date not on the date for each of the 8 sessions. Right?

Hi Jim,

That’s right on both counts.

If you need the event to show up on a every date in the calendar, then what you could do is to create 8 events (via Recurring or manually) and then in 7 of them, set the Alternate Registration URL setting to the URL of the first event.

This means that if someone click on the events they will be redirected to event one to register (so everything is kept in one place) but on the calendar it will show all eight events.
