PHP error after install EE in subfolder

I have a joomla website.
I created a subfolder for events with EE 4.9.16p
After install, the WP site no working anymore (permission 755):

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /<path>/site/eventos/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_Load_Espresso_Core.core.php on line 80

Hi Aurelio,

I’d suspect it’s because that site is running a very old version of PHP like 5.2 or lower. In which case you’ll need to upgrade to a newer version of PHP.

We recommend PHP 7.

Event Espresso
