Hello!
I am trying to link to a bio for each speaker, but the link is not working. For example, if I click, https://www.imvets.com/people/chris-mcreynolds/, it just goes to our homepage and will not actually link to this person. Any idea how I can fix?
Thanks!

Hi there,

Have you flushed your permalinks since installing the people add-on?

the issue is with ‘pretty’ permalinks, this isn’t working:

https://www.imvets.com/people/chris-mcreynolds/

This is:

https://www.imvets.com/?espresso_people=chris-mcreynolds

Go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks.

Just load that page and then retyr the above, does it work then?

THanks for the quick response – I went to Dashboard-Settings-Permalinks, but I am unclear what to do while there? I tried changing a few permalink options but still can’t get the linking to work. I must be missing something.

You actually don’t do anything other than just load the page. WordPress will refresh the rewrite rules when the page loads.

you don’t need to do anything, visiting that setting page tells WP to flush the parmalinks. You can make no changes and just click save if you want to be sure.

It looks like this is only affecting Chris’s page, if you go here:

https://www.imvets.com/people/

You can click on Amelia, but not Chris, his page has a 301 redirect to home, so parmalinks are working correctly.

Chris’s post is publicly published, correct?

Do you have any redirection plugins installed?

So far I have tried going to permalinks and refreshing, resaving. I also deactivated my re-direct plugin. I still can not get the pages to load. Any other ideas I could try?

The pages load for me right now. Do they for you?

So far I have tried going to permalinks and refreshing, resaving.

Then your permalinks have been flushed, as the other ‘people’ are working this isn’t the issue.

I also deactivated my re-direct plugin.

De-activating the plugin may not disable the redirect, it depends how its been done.

I still can not get the pages to load.

Which pages? The only page that doesn’t load for me is Chris’s:

https://www.imvets.com/people/chris-mcreynolds/

These all work:

https://www.imvets.com/people/
https://www.imvets.com/people/andra-detora/
https://www.imvets.com/people/amelia-keith/

Do they not work for you?

If you compare Chris’s ‘person’ in EE, with either of the others, are any of the options different (apart from the obvious such as details for that specific contact)?

Thanks for the help! I can now see three doctors, but not the other two. I even deleted Chris and put him back in again – but I still can’t link to the page.
Working: https://www.imvets.com/people/andra-detora/
https://www.imvets.com/people/steve-dugan/
https://www.imvets.com/people/mj-redman/
Not working:
https://www.imvets.com/people/chris-mcreynolds/
https://www.imvets.com/people/amelia-keith/
Everything seems to be the same on each “people” page. I might need to find some other way to make this work without using the extension, unless there are anymore ideas?

Strange, for me all of those links work other than Chris’s.

I just did a quick test using https://www.browserling.com

Which is basically a site that allows you to test a site in various different browsers and it showed Chris’s page fine – http://take.ms/xHZyo

(You only get 3 min of session time per visit free which is why the banner is showing in that screenshot)

With that I tested in IE 11 on my local machine, again it worked – http://take.ms/nCjAZ

Visiting exactly the same page in Chrome redirects to home, side by side – http://take.ms/2DrfP

I suspect the request may be tripping up some form of security on the server (mod_sec for example) and its redirecting back to home, you’ll need to check with your host and have them confirm this.

I might need to find some other way to make this work without using the extension, unless there are anymore ideas?

This doesn’t appear to be an issue with the People add-on, so switching to another method could very well lead to the same result further down the line.

Interesting – I appreciate all your efforts so much Tony and Josh. I’m going to give it the night, refresh everything, and try again tomorrow. If it’s still acting up I will check with my host.
I’m going to post another question on another thread now 🙂
