Is there a document or tutorial I can look at to see exactly how a PayPal Standard sandbox should be set up and tested within EventExpresso?

Hi there,

PayPal Sandbox is very similar to setting up your live account, the main difference being you login into PayPal’s sandbox site.

PayPal have documentation on how to create a sandbox account here:

https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/lifecycle/sb_create-accounts/

Within Event Espresso the only difference would be that you use your PayPal sandbox credentials within:

Event Espresso -> Payment methods -> PayPal Standard (or Pro depending on what account type you are testing)

and that the Payment method is in Debug mode, for example in the PayPal standard settings you’ll see – http://take.ms/cwRo2

In your experience, is it possible to use both PayPal Standard and PayPal Pro on one site? The reason I am considering this is that on PayPal Standard, with the option to pay by credit card with no PayPal account, users without a PayPal account do not get redirected to the site. PayPal specifically says:
===============
Note: If you have turned on Auto Return and have chosen to turn on PayPal Account Optional for new users, a new user will not be automatically directed back to your website, but will be given the option to return.
==============
Now, I am thinking that if I offer a PayPal Standard with no credit card option (account optional to off) and another one (Pro) just with credit card option (no PayPal account), then everybody will get returned to the site.

Do you think that is a viable solution. The possibility of people not returning to the site is very bad. Their registration will never be completed.

You can use both on the same site without a problem.

However PayPal standard is an off-site payment method, PayPal Pro is on-site. With on-site payment methods you take on more responsibility for PCI compliance which may or may not be an issue for yourselves (it depends a lot on your hosting).

Another option is to use PayPal Standard and our Stripe payment method as they are both offsite although Stripe loads within an iframe and only requires your card details to pay so allows for both use cases.
