Dear EE,
As I am using PayPal to take EE payments, do I need to worry about this email from PayPal asking whether we are SHA-256 compliant?
Is this something that relates to plugins such as EE that use PayPal, or is it related to my WordPress installation / hosting?

It’s related to your hosting. The new PayPal IPN standards require that your server must have the relevant SSL stack / certs set up to validate PayPal’s certificate.
The PayPal sandbox has already been upgraded to SHA-256 – so you verify whether the server meets the requirement by testing a sandbox payment and if your server receives the IPN . If not, you’ll need to contact your host.
