I received alerts today that two separate people’s transactions were declined. We are using Paypal Payments Pro for processing. It appears that the cart is just declining the transaction with no error code. I went try to do tests and it also failed. Here are the steps I have used to troubleshoot it. 1. Updated the Event Espresso plugin to version We are running the following versions: We are in the middle of a meeting registration push. Please help! |
|
I forgot to include the URL: We currently have the site in maintenance mode to keep people from registering. So let me know how I can provide admin access to the site for you to check things out. |
September 29, 2014 at 10:04 am Hi Eddie, You can provide login details using this form: |

Hello again, Could you let us know if this is an existing PayPal Pro account or if it is a new merchant account with PayPal? New merchant accounts may have certain fields required such as Company name. This causes an order to fail since Event Espresso does not send this field. — |

This is an existing Merchant Account and has been open for many years. |
Hi Eddie, Have any new plugins been installed or configurations changed since the time that this was working? The logs show that a transaction was approved last week Thursday. As an aside, the WP ADMIN is not set to be secured. In order to prevent errors during the registration check-out using FireFox and IE, you’ll need to secure the WP admin. |
|
|
No new plugins have been added that I know of and I have added the admin to be secure. WordPress may have been auto updated through BlueHost. |
Can you check on whether plugins were updated or settings changed in any plugins at that time? |
|
|
How would I specifically check plugin install dates or times. |
Hello again, We were looking for any insights on changes that may have been made to the WordPress site or your merchant account. I looked around your WordPress dashboard and I’m seeing various messages like this:
Payments through PayPal Pro are processed via HTTPS. Has your web host notified you about any changes to the server? There is a security issue affecting CentOS servers: If this change has been made, then that could explain why it suddenly stopped working. — |
|
Hello, We have additional information on this issue available here: https://eventespresso.com/topic/problem-with-the-ssl-ca-cert-path-access-rights-click-here/ If you haven’t already done so, could you check with your web host to see if you are affected? — |

Bluehost has said they they have updated BASH and it shouldn’t be affecting this transaction. Any other things to try? I really need to get this working. |
September 29, 2014 at 10:14 pm Hi, Do you have another site on Bluehost or another host that you can test on? I read your original post and I see that you are already on the current software and have tested on defaults already. This should help pinpoint if the issue is specific to your host or a possible issue with your API credentials. I’ve tested the latest version of Event Espresso 4.4.3 with PayPal Pro on my own testing site and it is working. — |

Actually late last night we figured it out. They had updated BASH but the update seemed to affect php-curl. The server needed to be restarted and it fixed the issue. |
Thanks for sharing how the issue was fixed! Be sure to deactivate the temporary login that was shared privately. — |
