Hi — I am using PayPal Express Checkout with Smart Buttons and used it without issue for my event last month. This month, I seem to be having trouble accepting some debit cards. I am getting the error message “Something went wrong. We’ll take you back to checkout so you can try again.” When I click on the Try Again button, it brings up the old popup window. I can enter all my card information again and then I get the error, “This card can’t be used for your payment. Please use a different card.” So far I’ve tried two different PayPal debit cards and a Venmo debit card and gotten the failures. My debit card from my BMOHarris account works fine. Credit cards seem to be working fine. PayPal itself as the payment method works fine. Is there a reason why a PayPal debit card would not be allowed? Or is there another issue? Both plugins are up to date with the most recent versions, as is WordPress.
Hi,
Can you log into your PayPal account? Usually there will be a log of the transactions which will include an error code explaining the reason why the card was declined.
You could also check in your site’s Event Espresso > Payment Methods > Logs page, if you know the Event Espresso transaction IDs for those it will have log entries that may also have the error codes.
