Hello, Thank you! Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing: |
Hi Pamela, Can you check the page that handles notification URL’s is published so anyone can view it if they browse to it? The Notify URL page is listed in Event Espresso System settings. |
Josh, I’m sorry, I do not understand. Can you please explain it differently or give me more information? I tried to locate what you suggested. Thanks! |
Hi there Pamela, Please double check the Event Espresso pages. These are the WordPress pages that have the Event Espresso shortcodes on them. You can find them in WordPress admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Page Settings All pages should have a valid shortcode an should be published: http://cl.ly/image/291e0F1H1o0C The transactions page is used for PayPal: http://example.com/transactions/ — |
Thank you Lorenzo! Not sure why I received the error message, all shortcodes appear to be there and set up properly. |
Hello, Please try resending any IPNs: First login to your PayPal account. Then locate History in the menu and click on IPN History: http://cl.ly/image/2y2p431I3W1m If any Instant Payment Notifications appear on the next page, could you click on them and resend? — |

Hi Lorenzo, Yes, there are a couple transactions in the history that indicate the status as ‘retrying’. However, these payments did process so I am not sure why there is the error message. I receive notification via e-mail when the transaction occurs, and the funds shows up on PayPal account. This message just started appearing within the last few days. It’s been working properly with no error message since the onset of installing/setting up EE a few weeks ago. I just keep receiving the following message: Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing: Any other tips or help?? Thank you!! |
Also, Below is what appears in PayPal under the notification url. Maybe this will help. NOTIFICATION URL HTTP response code: 404 Thank you! |
One more thought… Back to the Settings. Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Page Settings Even though there appears to have all the right short codes, I think the notifications are being directed back to the Main Page (the Home page) which doesn’t have any payment options. This is probably my problem?? Do I have to set up an actual transaction/payment page to handle the PayPal?? Thanks again! |
Hello, It needs to go to your transactions page. — |
Hello, OK, hopefully I corrected the issue? I added a transaction page, it’s now linked to the notify url within the general settings. However, I privately published it – it’s not public and there is NO content on the page. It’s blank. Will this work? Thanks! |
Hello again, Sorry about misunderstanding. I thought that all of your Event Espresso pages had the correct shortcodes and were published: http://cl.ly/image/291e0F1H1o0C Please double-check them as shown in the screenshot above. They all need to be public & published. Note: published means that the page can be reached by browsing to it in your web browser (when logged out of your WP-admin). You do not need to add all of them to your website navigation menus. — |
Thank you Lorenzo for you help. I have made the page public, removed it from the navigation menu. Just one last quick question, the page is blank. Is this ok? There is no information, no PayPal coding – nothing! Is this ok? Thanks again! |
Let me clarify… the only information on the page is this – [ESPRESSO_TXN_PAGE]. I haven’t added anything other than this shortcode (I copied and pasted it from the general settings but it may not actually link anywhere???) Does this automatically link to PayPal through the EE payment settings I have established or do I need to do something further? Once again, thank you!! |
This shortcode: [ESPRESSO_TXN_PAGE] …should be on a transactions page: example.com/transactions/ This page should be public & published. Then update your IPN settings in PayPal to link to the page above: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-set-up-paypal-ipn/#paypal — |

All set! Thank you! |
