Hello EE team. I was searching through the forum but couldn’t find anything recent on the topic, so I thought I would ask, has there been any movement on people’s request of adding a surcharge option to a transaction?
We would really like to add a percentage to all-digital payment methods as processing fees are a big issue for us. I see that past posts suggested it may be a feature in the payment methods pro, but I don’t see that in the description. I also see that your team suggests custom coding but I honestly think this is something that should be easily contained in the settings of EE itself. It’s not uncommon to want to pass the expense of processing onto the consumer if they choose to pay with a credit card or paypal? Thank you in advance for any help you can give ~Chris

Hi there,
Currently, we do have a feature that allows you to set surcharges based on the selected payment method/ticket.
I see that past posts suggested it may be a feature in the payment methods pro, but I don’t see that in the description.
I’m not sure where that is from, but I can’t think of a way to use the Payment Methods Pro add-on to do the above and it’s certainly not an official feature of that add-on.

You’re right, it’s not but it can also put you in breach of your payment merchants TOS. For example PayPal state in their terms that you can not dissuade customers from using their products using surcharges. So if for example, you have 2 payment methods, PayPal and something else, you then add a surcharge which dissuades users from using PayPal in favour of the other, you are in breach of their TOS and they can (and have) dropped accounts for doing it.
Note – I’m not saying we will not add this feature into Event Espresso at all, just currently do not have it available so the only option would be via custom code.
