Hi,

I have Invoice and PAYPAL standard enabled on my website. I recently setup braintree as another payment option, but it keeps disabling itself. I can’t see a pattern for it. During one of the times I monitored it for 4 hours, but it hadn’t shut itself off. I forgot about it over the weekend and checked today and it was disabled.

Do you have any idea what might be happening?

Thanks
Denise

Hi Denise,

Did anyone happen to deactivate the Braintree plugin?

No ;). I am the only one with access to the admin site.

What we can do is monitor the Braintree payment method on our testing sites. Right now it’s currently enabled on more than a few of them and we’ll try to log any activity that would unintentionally disable it.

Hi josh,

I had check around 6pm yesterday and everything was fine. I just logged in and braintree was shut off.

Denise

Was the plugin deactivated or was it disabled on the Payment Methods page?

The payment method was deactivated. The plugin is still active and paypal and invoice methods are also active.

Regards,
Denise

Hi Denise,

I’ll have to get back with you on this. I asked one of the developers if there’s some debug code that could be added to the site somewhere to log what’s triggering the payment method deactivation.

Looks like it shut off again. I forgot to check last night before I went to sleep.
I’m trying to monitor it to see if there is a pattern

Hi Denise,

Could you share a list of plugins that are running on your site?

Also, is it just Braintree that is sporadically being deactivated? If you temporarily enable another payment option but set it to not appear on the front-end, does it also become deactivated?

Just check again right now and it was disabled. I will try another payment method and post the results.

I enabled the check payment method. I don’t know how to disable it in the front end, so I just left it on, it won’t really affect me. Or did you want me to try something else? If so could you tell me how to disable it in the frontend.

HI Denise,

If so could you tell me how to disable it in the frontend.

You can disable payment methods on the front end by un-checking ‘Front-end Registration Page’ option within the payment method – http://take.ms/mnr5D

Can you go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System information.

Within that tab search for ‘wp_memory’, what value do have set for it?

Hi Tony,

I added the check payment method. This did not disable, but the Braintree one did. I can’t add the other payment options since I don’t have accounts setup for then, its looking for valid API’s and Keys which I don’t have.

For the wp_memory this is what is there:

[wp_memory] => <mark class=”error”>40M – We recommend setting memory to at least 64MB. See: Increasing memory allocated to PHP “</mark>

Hi Denise,

If you follow the recommendation (or go to 96MB) that may help. You can follow this guide to bump up the amount of memory that WP can use:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this but here is my update:

I set the memory to 96M and it didn’t seem to make a difference. It still reset after a few hours. I contacted my host, and they said there is no other configuration needed for PHP memory other than changing the WP-config.php and adding that define line per your instruction. I am trying again with 256M, per their recommendations.

Do you have anything else I can try?

Thanks
Denise

Hi Denise,

Not anything else at this time. There’s a developer working on a ticket to fix the issue where the Braintree Payment method can potentially deactivate itself. When there’s a fix available we’ll update this thread with more information.

Update: The developer finished a fix where Event Espresso could potentially disable a payment method like Braintree if an error occurs while getting the payment method object. The fix was included in the Event Espresso 4.8.36.p update, which was released earlier today.

Hi Josh

I have updated to the latest version this afternoon (4.8.36.p), I added the braintree payment again, and just checked at 10pm and it is turned off again.

What would you like me to do?

Thanks
Denise

Hi Denise,

I’ll ask the developer to see if he can come up with some debug code that can be added to your site that can be used to isolate the reason why the payment method gets deactivated.
