Payment options selection twice? Need help eliminating this.

I am all set up and I have two payment options for event pricing. One for someone paying with cash and one for someone paying with Paypal. This is critical because we have a separate amount for Paypal due to the Paypal schedule fees. We consider it a convenience to offer this to our customers. However, we’ve noticed that some customers choose ‘cash’ in the beginning and are then given the option to change their payment type to ‘Paypal’ after they have confirmed registration which is somewhat less. This allows them to switch their payment amount.

For example: I choose cash for my event and want to pay $135. I complete registration, then another payment set of buttons comes up. Now, I can choose to use Paypal at $135 when the actual Paypal event price is $139.34 to offset the schedule fees. So my client is not collecting the $135 per event, he is collecting $130.78. We have to have $135.

I need to stop this from happening ASAP. Please help. thank you!

Hi Jason,

The ticket options do not control the payment options, so if you offer two pricing structures and 2 gateway options, the user is free to choose any combination.

Some options:

1) Have separate events, one for each price. It will still show both gateways for each event though, as we dont have a gateway per event system.

2) Remove the cash/check from the ticket options and add the information to the event description or perhaps to the payment_page.php template (both?) so that the user knows if they select the cash/check option the price will be different.

3) Charge the same for paypal and cash/check.

Yikes, non of those are what I was wanting to hear. So the first choice is the “ticket” option? Then the payment option are what the ticket price is? I’m confused. We have the ticket prices different so why does that not connect to the payment for that ticket???

Hi Jason,

The ticket options feature does not connect with the payment options. These are independent of each other. In order to make one payment option only work with one ticket option this would need to be custom developed.

Consider that a feature request then. Seems like others would need that as well. I can’t be the only one who wants to offset fees by payment gateways…

On the other hand, I’m trying to figure out why anyone would have separate ticket prices then. What’s the point if your only allowed to collect one price? I don’t get it.

There are a lot of reasons to offer different levels of pricing. Sometimes it’s based on a package, a level of service, or a set of options. People will use it to sell an add-on like having one price for the ticket only, and having a second price for a ticket + a t-shirt. Usually these have nothing to do with how the tickets get paid for.

While we’re not in a position to add your feature request any time soon, there is an existing add-on that you may be able to use in this case. It’s called the price modifier add-on. How that would work is instead of offering two price options, you offer one.

Then, you add a question to the registration form along the lines of “Will you be paying cash or by PayPal?” You can then set up the answers to add 0 to the price if they pay cash, and your extra amount if they pay by PayPal.

it’s not on the add ons page. Where do I see pricing and download availability?

It’s available to download for free from your account page after you opt into the pre-release channel.
