Hello

When we activate PayPal Pro, the payment options don’t populate with any image or text. In other words, customers cant see what their payment options are… not sure what causes this issue. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. I have disabled Paypal pro for now.

Hi there,

I tried to register onto an event to view this but for some reason, the site doesn’t accept my login after registration.

Can you send m temp login details so I can test a registration on one of the event to view this? If so use this form:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

Have you checked the servers error logs around the times you have PayPal Pro enabled? See if there are any errors shown there.

Side note – Personally I don’t recommend using PayPal Pro as it requires the highest level of PCI Compliance on your end (it makes very little difference to Event Espresso itself, but puts a lot more liability on you/the site owner). The same is true for any ‘on-site’ payment method where the user enters the card details on your site so unless it’s a specific requirement (and your willing to address the requirement levels) I recommend using an offsite payment method such as PayPal Express.

Hi Tony

You needed to approve your email (which was probably delivered to your spam folder) to activate your account.

Ive gone ahead and approved the account manually. you can test registration now.

Please note you will only see one payment option because i disabled Paypal Pro given that the options don’t populate and can cause confusion.

Thank you for the recommendation. The reason we want to activate Papal pro is to be able to accept credit card payments. what are the alternatives on EE to accept credit cards?

Hmm, strange. I’d actually followed the link to approve my email multiple times to confirm.

It sounds like there is an error being thrown when the PayPal Pro payment method loads, so I’ll need to see that in action, but, with your next question this may be put on hold so I’ll answer that first…

Pretty much all of the payment methods will accept credit cards, Stripe is what I would use but PayPal Express can also accept them.

The difference is mainly how the checkout process works and the fees from each merchant, ‘Onsite’ payment methods (like PayPal Pro) keep the user on your site, the user enters card details on your site which is then sent to the merchant (this requires a high level of PCI compliance because ‘you’/’your server’ handles the user’s card details which it then sends over to the payment gateway). Offsite payment methods like PayPal Express take the user to PayPal’s servers to make the payment and then back to your site, which means the user’s card details are added on their servers and not yours (you need the ‘lowest’ level of PCI compliance for this because your server isn’t touching the card details, that’s all handled by the gateway so they handle most of the PCI compliance requirements for you).

If you want to stick with a PayPal account, I would recommend using PayPal Express over PayPal Pro. If you were to use PayPal pro you also need to enable ‘Website payments pro’ within your PayPal account which has a monthly subscription separate from your transaction fees.
