Payment Declined Message not triggering properly

Dear EE Staff and EE friends,

I’ve recently purchased a personal EE4 license and have been running a few tests. Pretty impressed with all that the plugin does so far, but there’s one thing:

I’ve created a test registrant choosing bank transfer as the payment method.
Then I go to this registration’s transaction page and add a payment, as if I had just checked my bank account, received the money, and wanted to mark this transaction as complete.
If I mark this payment as accepted, the system works OK: the “payment received” message is automatically sent to the test registrant. But, and this is the problem, if I mark the payment as something else (cancelled, declined, failed, pending), it still triggers the “payment received” message, when – I think – it should send the “payment declined” message.
What am I missing?
One other thing that I find confusing is that, in this “Apply Payment” box, one has 5 payment states (accepted, failed, cancelled, declined, pending), but we only have 2 automated messages for these 5 possibilities: payment declined and payment received. So which message corresponds to the {failed, cancelled, pending} states? As things are now, all I get is the payment received message.
This is hapenning both with default templates and my own custom versions.
I know that I can disable the sending of any automatic messages, but I really wanted to benefit from these automations.
Please advise. Your help and support is much appreciated.

Respectfully,
António @ Intellegibilis

Hi Antonio,

Those message types are currently expected to be used for the online gateways, rather than applying manual declined payments.

So currently if you apply a payment within the admin, that payment will trigger only the payment received message type and none of the others. I have issued a ticket for some feedback from our developers to check if sending the other payment messages is possible and will update this thread with any news.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for your help!
Now I understand what’s going on. I’ll look forward to any news you may have on this. I think it could be a useful feature for many event scenarios.
Thanks again, keep up the good work.

António

Hi,

We are looking to add a modification in the next version for the messages that should hopefully improve this.

Hi Dean,
Thank you for letting me know. Would be very useful. The ability to create extra default messages (instead of using the batch/newsletter function for any custom messages) would also come in handy. I guess others have already suggested this.
Have a good day.

The ability to create extra default messages (instead of using the batch/newsletter function for any custom messages) would also come in handy

You can create custom versions of any of the templates already, then select those templates to be used for specific events.

For example, if you go to Event Espresso -> Messages.

Clicking the Create Custom button will create a custom version of that template you can edit and save – http://take.ms/gbZgz

Then within you event editor, scroll to the bottom and you’ll see a ‘Notifications’ panel. Select your custom message template to be used for that event there – http://take.ms/b4TxI

Then update the event to save.

Or is it something else you are looking for?http://take.ms/gbZgz

Hi there,

They added some new message types to handle various payment statues. These are included in Event Espresso 4.6.15.p, along with some other fixes and enhancements.
