Greetings-

I have been working on setting up my event website with EE 4.1.8.reg (new installation). (WordPress v3.8.1)

I am in the final stages of customising the confirmation and payment emails to suit my event.

Previously, ‘Payment Declined’ emails were being delivered by the messaging system when PayPal payments were manually cancelled (by clicking ‘cancel and return to <name@email.com>..’ in PayPal system).

(PayPal Standard setting BTW)

Now the ‘Payment Declined’ emails are not being delivered, even though the recipient field shortcodes have not changed.

I enabled full logging to see if I could find any information in the logs:

redacted-lorenzo from event espresso

What gives?

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I’ve removed your debug log from public view. The team at Event Espresso can still view the information that you have shared.

Could you please backup your WordPress and update to 4.1.9.1?

Is this the only message notification that is not being delivered?

Hi Lorenzo,

As requested I have updated EE4 to 4.1.9.1 (backed up everything before updating).

Unfortunately I am now getting various error messages when registering http://www.lindyvice.com/events/mooche-2014/

Please advise
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Did you use the Bulk Updater to update Event Espresso?

Can you also flush your permalinks. Go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks. Make no changes and just hit save.

None of your events are displayed on the /events/ page, have you altered this?

I updated Event Espresso using this method: deactivate, delete, add new, upload, activate

Permalinks have been flushed as requested

My /events/ page is custom (archive-espresso_events.php) for my child theme (which I have now disabled for troubleshooting).

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I see that there is a caching plugin running. Have you had a chance to setup no-cache/exclusion rules for the Event Espresso Critical pages?

You can find these in WordPress admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Critical Pages.

Hi Lorenzo,

Currently the caching plugin is only using the CDN module. All other caching modes have been disabled.

update **I disabled the CDN service of the caching plugin, then de-activated the caching plugin completely.

Have you had a chance to setup no-cache/exclusion rules for the Event Espresso Critical pages?

Can you provide a link to a guide to doing this?

Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This option will be available in your caching plugin. I know that WP Super Cache and W3 total cache offer it.

For the slugs to enter, you’ll want to check your Critical pages (WordPress admin –> Event Espresso –> General Settings –> Critical Pages). If you hover over the view link you’ll see the URL.

The no cache/exclusion rules only need the slugs.

Here are the default slugs that would be used with a new install of Event Espresso 4:

/events/
/registration-cancelled/
/thank-you/
/transactions/
/registration-checkout/

That’s great- I’m confident I will be able to set up the no cache/exclusion rules when I have the site in the final stages. I’m sure others will benefit from knowing about this step, as many other sites also use caching plugins.

Any thoughts on why the Payment Declined’ emails are not being delivered?

Regards,
Andrew

Is it currently enabled?

Blue text means enabled: http://cl.ly/image/2y2d3q3H2s21

Also are there any other messages that are not being delivered?

Is it currently enabled?

See screenshot:

All other messages seem to be working OK

Hi,

I see you are using PayPal standard. How exactly are you testing the declined status?

Hi Dean-

My method of testing:

1) register myself http://www.lindyvice.com/events/mooche-2014/
2) select PayPal payment type
3) cancel payment at PayPal screen by clicking ‘cancel and return’

RESULT:
1) /registration-cancelled/ page is shown
2) the record IS shown in the EE4 system backend
3) my email address does NOT receive any notification

Hello, thanks for sharing those steps.

I may be mistaken but reading over your steps, that looks like an abandoned order since the attendee/registrant did not complete the payment.

An example of a declined payment would be if you were paying with a bank card and entered an incorrect billing address. The bank would decline the transaction because the billing address entered does not match that of the cardholder.

OK Lorenzo,

That’s fine- but I could swear that when I was setting up the messages and testing the site that the ‘cancel and return’ option at PayPal screen would send a message. You may close this thread if you feel satisfied.

Andrew
