Hi, I already uploaded all 18 EE4 plugins, when I tried to activate Event Espresso Version 4.8.14.p I received this error message

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/jatravel/public_html/booking/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/core/EE_System.core.php on line 161.

Please advise.

Thanks
wayne

For your info, I tried upload plugin thru ftp and thru dashboard, I also deleted all other plugins and left Event Espresso Version 4.8.14.p, but I still getting same error message.

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Hi there Wayne,

We can help you troubleshoot this.

Just a quick note that Event Espresso can run on its own and does not require all add-ons to operate. For example, you can certainly use the template add-ons to present your events to your attendees/registrants in different ways but it is unlikely that you’ll be offering payment processing through all of the payment methods that we offer at the same time.

We have seen a couple recent reports of the issue with PHP 5.2.x. Event Espresso is not compatible with that version of PHP as it is old and no longer being developed:

Could you install this free plugin on your WordPress site and activate it?

https://wordpress.org/plugins/display-php-version/

If it shows PHP 5.2, then please ask your web host to update your site to a current version of PHP such as PHP 5.5. Some webhosts also offer an option to do this through the cpanel / hosting panel login area.
