Hi,

We’re having an issue with promotion codes on our site. Users are able to enter the promotion codes, and the total amount due gets updated, but they are still charged the full amount. We’re using Paypal w/ smart buttons for payment processing, and it doesn’t show the amount being charged in Paypal, so users aren’t aware they’re being overcharged until they see the receipt and registration confirmation. This is consistent behavior, and I was able to replicate it. I put screenshots at https://www.evernote.com/shard/s435/sh/6aa3c8a3-df34-4c2d-82d1-95b41288e636/a6ae93250c4aca5c.

I’m not sure if there’s something I need to change on my end, or if this is a bug.

Thanks!

Hi,

Usually PayPal will show the amount being charged. Can you post a link to the event in question along with the promo code being used, so we can investigate further? You can set the reply to private by checking the box below.

Hi,

I see. Here’s what you can do to make sure the promo code is applied:
1) Go to Event Espresso > Payment Methods
2) Click the PayPal Express Checkout with Smart Buttons Settings button
3) Change the “Open by Default?” option to Yes, then click the Update button to save the changes.

Got it, thanks! One more question, which may be a Paypal thing. When Paypal pops up, it asks for some information with a ‘Continue’ button, and a note that I will be able to review before completing the purchase, but when I click the button it redirects back to our website with payment confirmation. Is there a way to add the extra review piece so that users can see the details and confirm the price?

Hi there,

It is a PayPal thing, we don’t have control over the steps shown on the popup.

However, it looks like we may be able to pass an additional parameter to PayPal which switches the language a little, like so – http://take.ms/sEjxp

I’ll create a ticket for our developers to investigate this, I can’t say for sure if it will be included yet as it may have other implications I’m unaware of.
