How can I change the order of the events as they are displayed on the front end of my site?

It depends on how you want them to be re-ordered. So right now, they are ordered by next upcoming date time, sorted by ascending. Do you want to reverse the sorted by or change it to something like order by name of event sorted A-Z?

On the front end they appear to be listed in alphabetical order from Z-A. I want them in ascending upcoming date time. How can I change this?

Normally they are in ascending upcoming date time, there should be no need to make any changes. Do you have some custom code that alters the order of WordPress posts added somewhere, or is there an activated plugin that’s designed to re-order posts?

There is not any custom coding or plug-in to alter this.

Do the regular WordPress posts display in the order by dates? Maybe there’s a theme option or something that’s changing those. Again, normally the events in Event Espresso are ordered by upcoming event date. Maybe you can deactivate other plugins and switch to one of the default themes on your development site to narrow down what’s causing them to be ordered in another way.

Also, if you’re using the [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] short code on a page, you can check to see if the short code has the order_by parameter in use.

I guess I will have to wait for my web developer to return from holidays as this is over my head now.

Hi Johanna,

Can you link us to the page which shows the list of events? We might be able to tell how those events are being displayed from that.

The troubleshooting steps Josh provided will likely still need to be ran through but we can check to see if we can view any reason for it on the front end.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for looking into this. Here is the link. http://www.bcplaytherapy.ca/event-category/workshops/

Those actually look like they’re being ordered by event start date, in descending order.
e.g.
February 25, 2017
January 20, 2017
October 21, 2016
May 27, 2016
April 2, 2016
February 26, 2016

Since the list is including expired events, I wonder if the developer added something to the WordPress theme that reverses the order, so that the older events are not at the top of the list? Can you check with the developer to see if anything like that was added?
