The Loved Child

Hi,

I created ~10 events in the last couple days for my organization’s summer schedule. Typically I create the first event and then clone it and edit the details for the others. This time, I ended up with a weird issue, where two of the events redirect to a third on the website. The description shows up correctly on the list of events (we’re using the table view add-on), but if you click the Register link, it opens the wrong event.

Our class listing it at https://thelovedchild.net/play-parenting-classes/. The two events that are behaving weirdly are https://thelovedchild.net/events/summer-2017-play-parenting-class-for-mixed-ages-thursdays/ and https://thelovedchild.net/events/summer-2017-play-parenting-class-for-babies-wednesdays/.

What am I missing? I checked that the perma-links and slugs are correct, and that they have their own event ids, but it seems like something went wrong when I cloned the original event, since they’re redirecting to that event. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I checked your site and there are multiple redirects happening there. Can you check to see if there are any plugins activated on your website that can be used to set up redirects?

You might also check the .htaccess file to see if any custom rewrite rules are set up there.

Thanks! I found the Redirection plugin, and yes, I can see the redirects configured there. I disabled the two that were causing problems and they’re working properly now.

There are a *lot* of events that have redirects configured, and they all seem to be related to cases where I manually edited the link to the event. Is that expected? (Example: I cloned a previous event, which automatically set the link https://thelovedchild.net/events/the-organized-parent-tlc-parent-workshop-2/ for the clone. Then I updated the link to https://thelovedchild.net/events/the-organized-parent/, and now there’s a redirect in place from the first link to the second.

It’s not expected by Event Espresso but it is expected by the redirection plugin.

The plugin is monitoring for changes made to the permalinks of a post and then setting up a redirect for the ‘old’ permalink to the new one.

You can stop the plugin from automatically doing that but it means if you edit a permalink elsewhere you will need to manually create a redirect for original permalink.

To disable the monitor go to Tools -> Redirection -> Options.

Set ‘Monitor changes to posts’ to ‘Don’t Monitor’ and save.

Got it. I will update the setting. I’d rather manage the redirects myself when needed. Thanks for the help!
