I installed created and activated an account with SendInBlue for transactional emails. I installed and activated the plugin and then ran a test and recieved the test email.

I installed emailTest plugin and recieved the test email.

I installed Email Log Plugin.

When I try to register for an event (the payment gateway Authorize.net is set in testing mode) I can see in the Email Log that it is sending the emails but i am not receiving anything. I have tried my alternate gmail email account and a bluehost email account. Neither account has any spam filtering. I am not receiving the confirmation emails at either account.

Can you please help me with this?

Hi there,

Are the emails logged in the Sendinblue transactional email reports?

No, they are not. The test emails that I send from SendInBlue are appearing but the event confirmation emails are not showing up in the SendinBlue dashboard.

If you go to test an email from one of the email Message template editors, do you receive the test? If so, it may help to go to Event Espresso > Messages > Message Settings and set the the option for emails to be sent on the same request.

If not, can you verify whether *other* emails (like a WordPress password reset email) get sent from your site?

No, the test email send from a default message template failed. Then I set the Message settings to Send on the Same Request and tried again and it still failed. both times giving this error.

The following errors have occurred:
The email did not send successfully.
The WordPress wp_mail function is used for sending mails but does not give any useful information when an email fails to send.
It is possible the “to” address (bryan@kringdesign.com) or “from” address (Northern California Mediation Center ) is invalid.

The test message was not sent

Should i set the setting back to “on a separate request”?

Yes, it does send WP password reset emails.

Maybe this is a clue. Before installing SendInBlue I was trying to get it to send emails but I was not receiving them. The email Log plugin was saying that they were being sent but i did not receive them. I also could not receive any test emails. So i installed SendInBlue. Then the test emails and every email outside EE started getting through.

However, when I looked in EE messages tab I saw that all of the emails that I sent before installing SendInBlue were green and showed as successfully sent. (though i did not receive any of them). The ones send from EE after installing SendInBlue are red and marked with the error given above.

The issue with the from address is likely SendInBlue needs an email address only. So can you go in to the message templates and change the From: fields so they have only this:

[CO_EMAIL]

If the From: fields have something like
[CO_FORMATTED_EMAIL]
then that’s probably causing the problem.

it seems like EE is still trying to send mail through WordPress wp_mail function instead of SendInBlue. is this a setting someplace in EE?

No that’s not a setting, and are you sure that SendInblue doesn’t use wp_mail()? Did you try changing the From: field?

Yes, changing the from field worked. I changed it from [CO_FORMATTED_EMAIL] to my personal gmail. Where can I change the setting for what is plugged into [CO_FORMATTED_EMAIL]?

I found where to change it in general settings. For some reason when I paste the email into the from field on the message template then it works. If I change the email in the general settings then it is not working?

You need to change:

[CO_FORMATTED_EMAIL]
to be
[CO_EMAIL]

The formatted part is what’s breaking things.

Yes, that worked thanks. So I should go through all the templates and manually change it to [CO_EMAIL], is that right. How about the ones to event admin that are addressed to [EVENT_AUTHOR_FORMATTED_EMAIL]. Will the formatted part of that break also.

Yes, you need to change all the templates you use to use non-formatted email addresses. The non-formatted equivalent to
[EVENT_AUTHOR_FORMATTED_EMAIL] is
[EVENT_AUTHOR_EMAIL]

I changed all of the templates. They now work when you click the send test email link. However, when I walk through a test registration I am getting the error on the final screen.

An error has occurred:
The email did not send successfully.
The WordPress wp_mail function is used for sending mails but does not give any useful information when an email fails to send.
It is possible the “to” address (bryan@kringdesign.com) or “from” address (Northern California Mediation Center ) is invalid.

if I go back and reset the setting back to “on a separate request” then I do not get the error message but I do not receive the confirmation email either. it does appear as if the admin copy is getting delivered but not the purchaser of the ticket. SendinBlue does not show it as being sent.

I am not sure why it s listing the “from” address as (Northern California Mediation Center ). In the EE general settings tab the primary contact email is set to njfoster@ncmc-mediate.org

If you go to Event Espresso > Message Activity and look at the From column for the more recently attempted messages, does it have the email address only? If the from starts with “Northern California Mediation Center” then you can make a note of the Message Type and the Context, then go to edit that Message type and context. There you can check the From address field.

Ok, thanks I think I got rid of all the [Co_Formatted_email] instances and everything seems like it is working.
