I have a client that would like to find a plug-in that allows people to register for her classes and add their credit cards WITHOUT charging their cards. She then wants to have a report that she can print out, that shows the attendee for each class. I want to know if it is possible to show the price of the class without charging the attendee? I am guessing a customizable form will allow us to take their credit cards, without going through a payment gateway. Before purchasing, I would just like to verify the answers to these questions. Thanks!

Hi Patty,

Event Espresso has a “Pending” payment status that you can set as a default so that when people register they do not need to pay to hold their spot. It also has an Invoice payment option that lets the registrant pay later.

On your second question: While it’s possible to create custom forms with Event Espresso, credit card information is not intended or recommended to be captured with these. Credit card information should be passed directly and securely via the payment gateway.

In keeping with PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards, it is not PCI compliant to capture credit card numbers online without going through a payment gateway. If you store credit cards on your own database you are putting your client, their customers, and yourself at risk.

One secure solution that could be used if they do not want to take the payments online would be to use a service like Square or a standalone PCI compliant credit card processor to take credit card payments at the venue.
