Doesn’t Event Espresso allow for automatic updates? Manually updating the plugin is a pain.

Please add my voice to this. I cannot figure out what’s going on, especially since there seem to be several components, all with different release numbers.

The email announcing 4.3.1.p provides no info about what to do, apart from backing up wordpress. Are there instructions somewhere?

As Ruth suggests, auto update, like every other plugin, would be preferred.

Hi Ruth and Susan,

It turns out Event Espresso includes does include a 1-click update feature. Please see this guide for more information:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/updating-event-espresso/

If you’re not seeing an update notification please let us know which version of Event Espresso you have currently active and we’ll help you get up and running.

Hi Josh,

I’m using 3.1.36.5.P – from what I’ve read I guess you need to reset my license key

Hi Ruth & Susan,

Event Espresso 3 (EE3) is a vastly different system to Event Espresso 4 (EE4) and whilst EE4 has more features than EE3, it does not have the same feature set. For example EE4 currently does not support Promo codes, EE3 does.

So, if we offered EE3->EE4 via the auto update and users were un-aware of this fact it would cause more complications for more users in the long run as those users that updated, would then need to downgrade, with these two systems that is unfortunately not as simple as simply replacing the plugin files.

The current version of EE3 is 3.1.36.5 and as such if you are running this version you will not receive an update notification.

The current version of EE4 is 4.3.2

If you wish to update to EE4 I would recommend installing it on a development server before updating the production site, this can be a development copy running within a sub-domain for example, or a local copy of the site you can work on. This will allow you to work through any issues that may arise locally away from view of your sites visitors.

Event Espresso 4 uses your sites theme to output the Event details, if the theme is not following WordPress standards it is possible to run into problems with the output. Generally it is either a simple fix or no issues at all, but it depends entirely on the theme in use and sometimes the active plugins on the site.

If you have further question please just let us know.

I poked around and, somehow, found something that updated it. No idea what I did. (I wish developers saw the incredible value in effective user documentation, but it’s not in their personalities.) Guess I’ll have to sell something so I know if it worked. Sounds like a good motivation to do some marketing. 🙂

So if I upgrade to EE4 I won’t be able to use Promo Codes any more? Will you add promo codes to EE4 or will it be gone forever?

Not currently as EE4 does not support Promo codes.

Will you add promo codes to EE4 or will it be gone forever?

EE4 Promo codes are on the roadmap for EE4 and therefore will be added although I can not comment on timescales at this time.

If you require Promo code functionality I recommend you stay on EE3 for the time being.
