I just purchased EE3 and managed to upload just 2 plug-ins: event-espresso.zip and event-espresso-core-reg.zip. Suddenly my site crashed and the error message says: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare espresso_version() (previously declared in/home/content/97/10108097/html/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/espresso.php:46)in/home/content/97/10108097/htoml/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/espresso.php on line 35

I’m not sure what WordPress version it is, but it updates automatically. Can someone please help me – my entire business presence is now down.

Hi Terra,

How are you? It looks like you tried to activate Event Espresso 3 and Event Espresso 4, which are two different versions of Event Espresso, which cannot both be activated at once.

Do you have FTP access to your website server? Are you familiar with the WordPress directory structure and changing folder names at the server level? If so, you can rename the ‘wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/’ directory to something like “event-espresso-1” and that should bring your website back up.

If you are not able to do that, we can try to fix it for you really quick. Please send FTP server credentials via this form:

Hi Terra,

This is because you’ve activated EE3 and EE4 at the same time.

You can have both installed within your site, but only one can be active at any one time.

To fix you’ll need access to the site via FTP, or access to cPanel, both of which were likely provided by your host when they setup your account.

So do you currently have access to either of those?

Thank you so much for clarifying this. I just automatically started loading all of the plugins on my account.

I was able to rename the directory in my cpanel so that my website is back up. Now – which file should I use?

That depends on which version you would like to use 🙂

Do you need the functionality of EE3 and the Add-ons?

Just to clarify, the green downloads are EE3 and compatible Add-ons for EE3. The blue downloads are EE4 and the compatible Add-on for that (only the EE4 Calendar currently).

Thank you all so much! I decided to use EE3 with the add-ons. I really appreciate all of the help.
