I’ve ordered a priority support token and the directions say I must set up a support forum topic here. OK…

I spent a couple hours yesterday and today trying to get this to work. It worked more easily last year; this year I have the new Paypal IPN issue, which I’m not sure I understand, plus the format in EE has changed.

I duplicated our camp registration, wanted to test it. Last year I could set the site to “test”. This year it appears I need to set up a PayPal Sandbox site, which I thought I’d accomplished. But once I register a test registrant, am taken to the Paypal page and log in… everything stops. It says “test site” but there is no option to do anything more. I took a screenshot of that.

When I look in the registrations, I see the individuals I tried to register, so they did go through. I got a pending registration email but when I click on the link to complete the payment it takes me to the Registration Checkout page, which is blank.

This year’s implementation of this plugin has been so much more frustrating than last year! I paid for a support token because I have to get this up quickly.

Now the support ticket form won’t accept my information, says my email isn’t valid, when I hit back, it erases information and I have to re-enter. More frustration!

I’d like to add my phone number to my account so you guys can give me a call but no option to do so and I can’t find a phone number to call you.

Help!

Hi Bonnie,

Can you go to your account page and click on the link where it says:

To redeem your token(s) please complete this form

Then you can fill out the form and someone from support staff can investigate the issues you reported.

Josh, I’ve done that several times!

I’ve filled the dang thing out over and over again. The last time I started from my account and filled it out and I still get the “email isn’t valid” message.

ERROR: Sorry, that email address is not allowed! Please enter a valid email address.

Hi Bonnie,

The form’s validation might not allow the email address you tried. You can put noreply@eventespresso.com in for that field, then please include your email address in the message field so we can send you an email if need be.

Still the same error message. I’m using Chrome. I’ll try another browser.

Just tried Safari, used the noreply@eventespresso.com, still get the error message. Can I just take a screen shot of my support form and email it to you?

That should be fine. You can send it to support@eventespresso.com.

Thank you, I just sent it… the first one didn’t include the form entries. The second one is a text version of everything.

Hi Bonnie,

It looks like that’s a real email address in the PayPal ID field. If you want to use sandbox, you need to use a PayPal sandbox PayPal ID.

Would it help if someone from EE staff run a few quick tests with PayPal Sandbox? We can use a PayPal Sandbox account that’s already set up.

Josh, thank you, but I did try the PayPal emails issued according to your documentation. They didn’t work at all. The real paypal ID is what got me at least to the blank “Test” Paypal page.

If you get the sandbox working, and that would mean that the real site is working, then I’ll be grateful.

Okay I’ll try a sandbox account. May I ask though, when you tried to test the sandbox, were you logged into a PayPal sandbox account at the time? If not, that’s why it did not work.

I was logged into Paypal Sandbox with a different browser. That way I can switch easily between windows.

Here’s the error that’s thrown when returning from PayPal Sandbox:

WP Error. Code: “http_request_failed”, Message: “SSL connect error”.

It may be that your server needs to be brought up to spec because the recent security upgrades that PayPal has already rolled out on PayPal Sandbox will not allow your server to connect with PayPal.

These were the changes:

https://devblog.paypal.com/upcoming-security-changes-notice/

Can you contact your host to see if your server meets the specifications outlined in the above post?

Update:

This really looks like the server needs to be brought up to spec in order to work with PayPal’s new requirements. The good news is, right now, live PayPal payments (not sandbox) will work for your site until June. That’s when the changes they made to Sandbox will be rolled out to PayPal’s live servers.

I was able to pay for a test ticket (charging a small amount) to your live PayPal account on the Test event that I set up on your site. So your site is ready to go for collecting payments for PayPal, at least up until June. This will give your server administrator some time to roll out the updates.

Does that help?

WOW.. thank you THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I will contact the host right away. Hostgator usually is up to speed on software updates, so it should be fixed quickly.

In the meantime, what do I need to do to take my event live? Just turn off debugging mode?

Hi Bonnie,

Turn off the debug mode in the PayPal Standard payment option and then enter in the email address for your live PayPal.com account and save changes.

Hi Bonnie,

Your site is not in debug mode, and the email address set in your PayPal settings is a live account. That’s the account I tested because Sandbox can’t be tested using your server at the moment. If that’s the account you want to use to collect payments, then you’re good to go and no further action is needed.
