Good Morning, I have had Event Espresso for quite some time. I am currently using Version 3.1.36.5.P. I just bought a new license key. I followed the instructions to clear out the old, save, the copy and paste the new in. I refresh the page and it still shows the new key. I have deactivated the plugin and tried again. When I go to the plugin page to update Event Espresso it still shows incorrect key. Please let me know what I can try next.

A new version of Event Espresso is available. View What’s New with version 3.1.37.17.P. A valid Support License Key is needed to enable automatic upgrades. The key you have entered is invalid or has expired. Please log in to your Event Espresso account to manage your Support License Keys or purchase a support license right now.

The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

Hi there,

The reason you are getting the error about a valid license key is because your current license is for EE4, but the version on your site is EE3 so that license is valid for the current version you have installed.

You can download the latest version of EE3 HERE.

Deactivate and delete the current version of EE3 you have installed on the site.

Download the above.

Go to Plugins -> Add new -> Upload plugin.

Select the download you just pulled from above, install and activate.

Now you’ll have the latest version of EE3 activated.

Go to Event Espresso -> General Settings and click save to make sure your settings are updated.

Are you looking to stay on EE3 or migrate to EE4?

Thanks for the response. The reason for this whole upgrade is PHP 7.2 push by dreamhost. I have until 2/26 to make the site compatible. I am also looking to migrate EE3 to EE4. I deleted the current EE3 plugins and reinstalled the downloaded EE4. I used the migration process to import as much data as I could.
My issue now is, after changing from PHP 5.6 to PHP 7.2 the site will crash with the following error.

Error thrown
Call to undefined function mysql_real_escape_string()

I know Event Espresso is causing it because if I deactivate the plugin the site works fine.

This could be a result of not having all the required add ons installed. Since I upgraded from EE3 to EE4, will I need to repurchase the calendar and such?

Hi,

It sounds like you have an older version of the EE3 JSON API Add-on installed. It had been updated to not use mysql_real_escape_string() anymore, but you don’t need that plugin anyway if you use EE4. So you should remove it from your site. EE4’s API is built in.

With regards to the Calendar add-on for EE4, yes that’s a separate add-on that you can purchase for your account.
