Hello –

We renewed an annual license for EE3 in July for $199. Last week we upgraded to EE4 (and purchased the template add-on). We need a license key for EE4.

We’re unable to update to 4.4.3, and the license key field in General Settings > Your Organization is missing. Will the correct license key fix these errors?

Thanks for your help.

Hi David,

I have reset your license key. You can use the key from your account.

Let me know if you have anymore issues. I’m here to help.

Hi Jonathan –

This is Stephanie, David’s Webmaster. Thank you for the quick response.

The license key field under General Settings > Your Organization is missing. We’re using WordPress Multisite, and upgraded from EE3 to EE4 as instructed, and installed the template add-on, but with the wrong key. What’s the best way to fix the boo-boo in the settings?

Thank you!

Hi Stephanie,

The General Settings field is available when the site is activated on the primary site on the network.

If you are not running the site on the primary site, then please backup your WordPress site and manually update:

Hi Lorenzo –

Problem is unresolved after following actions taken:

– On network activating EE4, the license key field displays on the primary home site but it contains my own license key, which we used a year ago, and will not accept David’s.

– After deactivating/deleting previous version of EE4 and installing EE4.4.3 the software is still not accepting David’s newly issued EE4 licence key.

What next?

Thank you –

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Can you request a key reset from your account? That will clear your key out and will allow for using the other key. We will reset the key for free, so please skip the checkout stuff after the reset.

Hi Josh –

I’ll try it and report back.

Thanks!

Hi,

Your support license key is not appearing as activated. Could you go ahead and try activating it?

Hi Stephanie,

It was just reset. Follow the steps in the confirmation email to reactivate it through the general settings page of Event Espresso.

Lorenzo –

The software is still not accepting the new license key. I’ve tried it two ways: delete the old EE3 key (which is my key, not David’s) and Save before entering the new key, and delete the old key and enter the new one, then Save.

What do we need to do to resolve this problem, and the additional issues it’s causing, for the Website owner?

Thank you –

Stephanie

Hi,

Earlier you mentioned that the site was on WordPress Multisite. We do not officially support WP Multisite for automatic updates:

Hi Lorenzo –

Understood. But we still need to install the proper license key. That’s what I want to resolve before we move to other questions. What do you suggest?

Hi Stephanie,

When you add the license key to EE4 does the license key field then just show up blank?

If so this is a known issue with Multi-Site, the key does actually save, but Multi-Site installs show a blank field. I can see your license key has been assigned to your domain within your account so updates should now work correctly, however due to the issue above you may also need to re-save your license key after each update.

Hi Tony –

No, the field for the license key continues to show the EE3 key for my account instead of the current (reset) EE4 key for David’s account. I can’t delete/save the key or replace it with any other.

On 9/21 I manually uninstalled/deleted the previous EE3 software and installed version 4.4.3 and migrated the data. Up to this point the plugin had worked well, no problems.

Thanks for your help –

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Is the site that you’re having trouble with a WordPress Multisite site? If so, it’s a known issue on EE4 that the license keys will not save as expected. When this issue is fixed we will in an update we can notify you.

If this site is not on a WordPress multisite, please let us know and we can continue troubleshooting.

Josh –

Yes, this is a WP Multisite. The plugin is activated network-wide but is only used on one of the /sites/. (The sites are setup as subdirectories vs subdomains.) Would activating it only on the primary site help avert other unexpected issues?

Thanks –

Stephanie

Hi there,

It turns out that the license key system isn’t ready to be used on WordPress Multisite. When it’s ready, I’ll update this post. In the meantime, you can manually update the Event Espresso plugin by following this guide:
