Hi there,

My client who is using Event Espresso is asking if there’s a way for tickets to have multiple options which can be selected?

They use EE for booking events at a university club and there are usually a number of meal choices. Currently, they have to download an embedded menu and separately email their meal choices to the admin. This feels like a clunky way to go about thing.

It would be great if for each event – we could add multiple choices with 2-3 meal options for example.

This is then submitted with the booking in one go.

Many thanks!

Michael

Hi Michael,

Is the meal already included in the ticket price or are you trying to add additional cost to the registration based on the choice?

Hi Tony,

I believe the meal is already included in the ticket price. It’s just a case of choosing which one you want. I’ll confirm that but let’s go with that for now.

Thanks!

Hi Tony, an update – I just spoke with my client and he would ideally have it work like this:

1. Choose how many guests attend the event with the person booking.

2. For each person, the option to choose 2 or 3 courses.

3. If choosing 3 courses, then show the options (typically 3 options per course) where the person can select their starter, main & dessert.

4. If choosing 2 courses – then allow them to only select two of the three meal courses.

5. Repeat this for each person attending.

6. Then finally add a global option to add corkage if wanted for an extra amount to the event.

My gut tells me that this is a pretty complex request – not sure if EE can do this, but it’s worth asking. I imagine they’re happy to pay for custom coding or a 3rd-party plugin that can handle this if there is one available.

Many thanks!

Michael

You can do most of that with some custom questions within the registration form, we don’t currently have any ‘conditional logic’ to hide/show questions based on the value set in another question but at least you can capture the meal details for all and the ‘2 course’ users can leave the 3rd option unselected.

So you’d create your 3 dinner questions within Event Espresso -> Registration Form -> Questions -> Add new – http://take.ms/SnYwP
(I used dropdowns with some random values, you can obviously place whatever you prefer in those questions)

Then a custom question group within Event Espresso -> Registration form -> Question groups -> Add new.

Let’s say its ‘Dinner choice’ and select the 3 questions you just created – http://take.ms/F3dvI

(I have a fair amount of questions and question groups on this site, yours will be likely be reduced some)

Now within the event select the ‘Dinner choice’ question group for the ‘Primary registrant’ and ‘Additional registrant’ question groups – http://take.ms/viWSD

Now when you register your users can select the meal choices you added to the questions – http://take.ms/oCfk8

With a little more work on that type of setup, you can add additional questions and then show/hide the meal fields based on another question selection using jQuery but as mentioned its not something we currently have available within EE.

6. Then finally add a global option to add corkage if wanted for an extra amount to the event.

We don’t officially support ‘add-on’ items but we do have a snippet that allows you to basically assign a value to a question and if its selected within the registration EE adds the value to the registration. Its not a polished solution, for example if the user selects it and then wants to remove it then need to restart the registration from scratch but would that work for you?
