Hello

We have one day events where an attendee can register for separate sessions within the event (eg morning session, afternoon session, streams within the morning session etc). Is there a way of having separate sessions within the one event, or would we have to use a separate event per session?

We are using EE3.1.32.2.P.

Regards, Joe

There is a way to have separate sessions within one event in EE3, but you’ll run into a problem where you can’t set registration limits for each session. EE4 actually has that covered though. So your options are either update to EE4 or if you continue using EE3, then each session needs to be its own event if you need to enforce registration limits for each session.

If registration limits aren’t an issue, they you can add additional times to the event in the event editor.

Many thanks Josh. So from what I can see with the additional times, adding times does not show a separate session for the site visitor to select, it only sets out in the event confirmation details different session times for the event(?). We are indeed looking at upgrading to EE4 and wondered whether it is possible to run EE3 and EE4 concurrently for a while while we transition (ie have existing events on EE3, new events on EE4 until the existing events finish). The two can’t run concurrently on the same WordPress site. But you can set up a separate site (or even a subdomain) that runs EE4 for transitioning.

Thanks Josh – just a quick question about running additional sessions in EE3 – I have added additional times in the event editor to an event, however those additional times do not seem to show up as an option anywhere when it comes to the site visitor registering for the event. How would the site visitor select the additional session? Regards, Joe

Normally there’s a “Choose a Time” selector that appears when there is more than one time to select from. Here’s a link to an example event that shows how that works on the current version of Event Espresso 3:

If you’re not seeing the “Choose a Time” selector on your site, then it may be there’s been some customization that was made that removed that option.
