Hi guys,

We are encountering a problem that we haven’t seen before, though the same issue was flagged six years ago here: https://eventespresso.com/topic/multiple-registration-editing-registrant-names/

We are experiencing the same problem that was raised at that time:

‘Often we will have someone register six people all at once under one name. Later, they will send us the names of those people attending. When we go to edit the names, it changes all six of the names. I know the info is tied to the initial registrant is there a way to edit the other ones, though?’

We have always changed details using the ‘View Registration Details’ button and then ‘View/Edit Contact’. This has correctly changed the details for only one ticket until recent weeks, but now it changes the details for every ticket under that purchase.

Any help appreciated!

Our site is http://www.blackevents.com.au and we are using Event Espresso Version 4.10.11.p with these plugins:

Event Espresso – Attendee Mover (EE4.9.13+)

Event Espresso – Barcode Scanner (EE 4.6.0+)

Event Espresso – MER – Multi Event Registration (EE 4.7.0+)

Event Espresso – Promotions (EE 4.9.10+)

Event Espresso – Stripe Gateway (EE 4.6.0+)

Event Espresso – Ticketing (EE 4+)

Event Espresso – Wait Lists (EE4.9+)

Cheers and thanks, Tyson.

Hi Tyson,

We have always changed details using the ‘View Registration Details’ button and then ‘View/Edit Contact’. This has correctly changed the details for only one ticket until recent weeks, but now it changes the details for every ticket under that purchase.

This isn’t a recent change within EE, the way in which contacts and registrations work has been the same since the initial release of Event Espresso.

I understand that you haven’t run into this previously but just noting that this has actually been this way since the beginning and is not something new.

First, a quick explanation as to what is happening. On your events it looks like you are only collected the ‘Personal Info’ group and within that group, you only have First name, Last Name and Email (which are the fields required to create contacts within EE). That means that is if a user selects say 4 tickets and then inputs the same First Name, Last Name and Email address for each of those tickets, EE knows that the details match and therefore all of the registrations are linked to the same ‘contact’ (think of the contact as the person the registration is linked to).

So REG_ID 1,2,3,4 are all linked to ATT_ID (the contact ID) 66

Change the contact with ID 66 and all of the registrations linked to that contact now show the ‘new’ change data.

So now you have a group of registrations 1-6, when editing registration 2-6 do you not see a ‘Create Contact’ button next to View/Edit Contact?

As shown here: https://monosnap.com/file/GwaZKVRFSG9dstlWwxOvLJx46zBe7M

If so, what you can do is click that button on the registration you are editing and EE will duplicate the current contactand take you to the contact page, edit the details (don’t leave them as a duplicate or it’ll just get confusing later) and those changes will apply specifically to the contact you just set the contact on.

Hi Tony,

Many thanks for your response. This makes good sense.

We had thought this might have been the solution, and we had correctly used the Create Contact button to update one name (not the email address or phone number) in one booking for which there were multiple tickets under the same name.

However, after making this one correction, the Create Contact button disappeared for other names in this same booking. I’ve double checked that the name, email address and phone number are identical for the remaining tickets, however the Create Contact button does not appear.

We have been able to replicate this same error with other bookings by a different administrator on a different PC using a different browser platform.

Cheers and thanks,

Tyson.

I understand that the Create Contact button only exists when there are identical names in a booking, and does not appear when

… names and contact details are unique.

However, after making this one correction, the Create Contact button disappeared for other names in this same booking.

Hmm, strange. I can’t reproduce this.

I have a group booking of 4, all using the same contact and if I change Reg 2 of 4 to something else using the method above:

https://monosnap.com/file/y6Pse95frTcoTVsbzaZh6dnxAbhGyX

The create contact button continues to show for 3 and 4 (didn’t see the need or a screenshot of the button 🙂 )

Changing #4 to something else:

https://monosnap.com/file/5mA8ol3s7Mq7sl6pkm4ziinwx9WdU0

Note I’m only changing the name on these contacts to follow the steps you are taking.

I understand that the Create Contact button only exists when there are identical names in a booking, and does not appear when names and contact details are unique.

Almost, there is a little more to it than them not being unique.

The create contact button is shown when the current registration you are editing is part of a group and the current registration is linked to the Primary Registrant (the contact assigned to the primary registration) and does not have an ATT_ID of its own.

So, if you click on the Primary Registration in your group and click to view the contact, in the address bar it’ll have $post=XX, remember that number, it’s the ID of the primary registrant contact.

Now on an additional registrant that should be showing the create contact button, do the same, do the ID’s match?

Hi Tony,

Thanks again for all your help.

I’ve taken a couple of screen shots of two registrants within the same booking so you can see what we’re seeing. The email address and phone number for both are the same but I’ve blurred these out.

Let me know if there’s any other information that I can provide that might be helpful.

Cheers and thanks,

Tyson.

Hi Tyson,

Thank but those screenshots don’t help troubleshoot as they don’t show the contact IDs.

Can you confirm the ID’s I mentioned at the bottom of my previous post, please?

Hi Tony,

Many thanks for explaining. There are four unique IDs for the four tickets associated with this booking (10615, 11850, 11851 and 11823).

I think I’ve figured it out now: When the contacts are linked and share the same ID, I can use the Create Contact button to make each name unique. Then I can use the edit contact details button to edit the name on each ticket.

Many thanks for all your help!

Cheers, Tyson.
