While checking the registration process in a new installation, I’ve seen that the alert boxes appear to be missing spaces. For example, on a registration that requires a first name and last name for attendees, the message is missing the space between the words “First Name” and “is a required question”, and “Last Name” and “is a required question”.

I’ve notices this issue in other alerts as well, such as after periods in the authorize.net “processing” dialog.
Am I missing something in the settings or is this a bug?
Thank you for reporting this, I can reproduce this and have created a ticket for our developers to investigate.
The PHP code includes spaces in case of the required fields and BR tags (new lines) for the second screenshot which appear to be stripped out when displayed on the page. This is likely a bug introduced from some additional sanitation we added to EE in one of the recent versions.
