Hey, I’m currently redeveloping a website for a client that has been using EE3 for their events handling. I’m starting with a clean install of the latest version of wordpress, and the client has bought a licence for EE4, so we’re all good on those fronts. Where I’m running into walls is the data migration between their old EE3 databases and the new EE4 install. Due to shoddy development of their old site, their EE3 version was never (and still can’t be) updated past V 3.1.27.1.P. All the info I’ve found on data migration across EE versions makes a point of stipulating the EE3 version must be the latest one so I’m leery of attempting the migration with their current EE3 version. Since I’m working with two separate databases, I considered installing the latest version of EE3 to the new site, migrating the data from their old to the new EE3 install and *then* attempting the upgrade to EE4 but the plugin files I have access to don’t fire automatic updates from the wordpress back end and my clients have lost their initial EE3 login details so I can’t get access to the EE3 plugin files to install manually. Given all that, I wanted to check: Is it possible to automate the data migration from EE3 V 3.1.27.1.P to EE4? Thanks! |

Hi – just to let you know I tracked down a current version of EE3 and was able to complete the data migration with the usual instructions. Thanks! |
Hi Gareth, I’m glad your up and running. Just a note for future readers, it is not possible to force EE4 to migrate from a version of EE3 lower than 3.1.36+ due to database changes in that version. EE4 expects the latest database structure so the best way to handle this is to update to the latest version of EE3 (which updates the database) then migrate to EE4. It is recommended to do this on a development copy of the site to check all works as expected before working on the live site (or at the very least have a full site backup you can revert to although it is still not recommended to work live) |
