Hello,

It seems that my changes to the email template for one of the message types is not taking. Perhaps I’m doing it wrong but I’ve tried the documentation and forums and can’t get it to work. Please help

thanks

Hi Jaclyn,

Be sure you are selecting the correct recipient in the dropdown at the top of the message editor.

Hi Jonathan,

I have both Admin and Registrant showing as active

Hello Jaclyn, could you be more specific on where you are applying this change?

For example, what is the message type and recipient that you are editing and what in the message are you trying to change?

Hi Lorenzo,

I have tried editing the payment declined message under the default message templates and I tried ‘creating custom’ but neither one seems to be taking my changes when I do a dummy registration. Is there another place that needs to be overridden?

thanks

Hi, was this custom message template assigned to an event through the notifications area of the event editor?

That’s what’s tripping me up – I thought that if I edited the message itself that keeping it ‘global’ would work? Is this not the case? I’m confused because there are two places to create a custom message – one in messages and another on the event itself at the bottom under notifications.

thanks

Hi Jaclyn,

Global refers to the default message types. You don’t want to edit those if you need to include messaging for a specific event as changes to the default (global) templates will be used for all events.

If you created a custom message template, then just select it from the dropdown menu in the notifications area at the end of the event editor and then save changes to the event.

Then Event Espresso will use the custom message for that specific message type while using the default options for other message types for this event.

Ok I’ve tried that but my changes are still not coming through. Is it because it’s in test mode?

thanks

Hi I still seem to be having issues with this. I tried registering for the event in test mode with my personal email address and my changes are still not coming through. I have the custom template for declined payment activated for both admin and primary registrant. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, is this also enabled for the specific event in the notifications area within the event editor?

Hi Jaclyn,

Which payment method are you using?

The email is being sent, but its just using the global content rather than you custom template yes?

Tony,

I am selecting the ‘pay by credit card’ option. I set up authorize.net but it’s still in Test Mode.
It is using the global content even though I selected a custom template for the events. The only thing I changed for the custom template is some colors just to see if it would take.

thanks,

Hi,

Your earlier image shows that you are working with the payment declined message type (https://www.sacrealtor.org/events/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/message_screenshot.jpg). However, you are using Authorizenet test mode for processing.

How are you currently triggering a decline from Authorizenet when in test mode?

Hi I’m not sure I understand your question. I am using the fake credit card information and it’s sending me an email saying payment was declined. Does this affect the email message? I’m confused.

Here’s a screenshot if it helps: https://www.sacrealtor.org/events/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/screenshot.png

I want to be able to see how the email messages look without having to make a purchase. Is there an easier way? The preview is not the same as what I am receiving in my email.

thanks

Hi Jaclyn,

If we take a step back for just a second…

Each message template has multiple ‘contexts’ in which that template is used. In other words each message template can sent multiple messages to different users at once. A single template (such as Payment Declined) can send a message to the Event Admin and Primary Registrant, both of those messages are different messages.

So are you editing the correct context? Event Admin for the message sent to the Event Admin and Primary Registrant for the user.

You’ll find more information on message contexts here:

Tony,

I checked out the documentation from the link you sent me. I think I finally understand. It seems to be working. Thank you for your help.
