I have an event that is priced at $0 with the default setting being Approved. I have two messages that are enabled (which don’t send when someone signs up for the event) and MailChimp (which is configured correctly) isn’t posting the information to MailChimp. Is this happening because I am charging $0? What else could be happening?

ok..I fixed this myself. Make sure you have messages approved rather than just payment approved for messages being sent (since there is no payment). Also, make sure Mailchimp setting is set to submit on request, rather than batch.

Hi there,

I know you’ve mentioned you have fixed this but there are some important settings worth mentioning in your thread:

I have an event that is priced at $0 with the default setting being Approved.

May I ask why you have the Default Registration Status (DRS for short) for this event set to Approved?

Event Espresso will automatically mark registrations to Approved when the amount payed is equal to the amount owed. For free tickets the amount paid and amount owd is 0 so when the registration is processed it will automatically be approved.

Generally, most users want to use a DRS of ‘Pending Payment’, where registrations that did not complete payment (or if free, finalize the registration) will not take a space but those that have paid (or finalized) will. It won’t actually change anything for your current event but it will if you start charging for tickets.

I have two messages that are enabled (which don’t send when someone signs up for the event)

According to your screenshots, you have ‘Payment Received, Payment Cancelled and Refund Issued’ message types active. You current ticket is free ($0) and so no payment is made, meaning no ‘Payment Recieved’ message will be triggered.

‘Registration Approved’ should be considered the ‘confirmation’ message here.

I know you’ve mentioned this in your fellow up but just reiterating for any future readers.

and MailChimp (which is configured correctly) isn’t posting the information to MailChimp.

You don’t show any of your MailChimp settings in the screenshots (Event Espresso -> MailChimp) so I can’t see how it is configured.

Also, make sure Mailchimp setting is set to submit on request, rather than batch.

Apologies but this one doesn’t make sense to me, there is no ‘batch’ setting for MailChimp. I think you are referring to the message settings in Event Espresso -> Messages but I’m not really sure, can you explain a little further?

I should have said for MailChimp set it so registration is completed (payment status does not matter). Yes, I didn’t have it set for just registration approved, it was set for payment received. Once I added Registration Approved, that solved the problem. If course, because I had a custom template for Payment Received, I had to make another custom template for Registration Approved (under Message Setting).

Finally, in my case, I wanted people to register for free and have that be enough to get a confirmation message. Other people might want to do this differently.

I hope this helps.
