I am using the event espresso custom post feature to have more control over the look/layout of my events. Is there a way to quickly and easily change the Upcoming Events Widget to point towards those custom posts instead of the event espresso events.
I’ve tried using other wordpress widgets, but nothing will display the Event Title and Event Start date. They all want to show the event title and wordpress published or modified date.
Is there anything anyone has figured out there that works for this case?
To add to Chris’ answer, you will need to get the custom meta data from the post, so event_registration_start. The title is normally the same as the event title if the CPT is created via the event.
Thanks guys! I’ll have to look into this more closely… Worried it might be beyond my understanding/comprehension/abilities for PHP and MySQL. Will have to give it a shot and see what happens.
Just as a suggestion, this might be functionality you should consider building into your existing block… Maybe a checkbox/toggle to switch between the normal event espresso events and custom post types.
If you know of anyone who has already built a custom widget/loop that runs through the espresso_event post types please point me there way.
The dev team is actually looking into ways to make events more like custom post types in a future version which will make this possible to use native WP custom post type functions.
Good to know! I’ll keep my ears open for any future developments in this regard.
