I would like to give some input on the subject of forcing login for already registered users. We love Event Espresso but this is always the one thing that doesn’t make sense for us. This doesn’t have to be an active support ticket. It’s just a comment to offer a reason why somebody might want to use the User Integration module but would like an option to make it work differently than it currently does.

Our user accounts are created when we sell a membership. We use a different set of plug-ins for that. Memberships are for one year. Memberships expire and some are not renewed however the user account still exists. Their are also other people that have user accounts on our system for other reasons and they are not entitled to membership benefits.

We want to offer several Members Only events per year. We also sell tickets to events and shows in our venue using Event Espresso. We want to offer a Member Discount on just a few of these shows. We only care about people logging in on the Members Only shows and on the few shows that offer a member discount. We never create a user account when someone buys a ticket.

It would be helpful in this scenerio if, on a per event basis, we could ignore matching emails on most of our events. A setting such as:

Action on matching emails:
Option 1: Warn
Option 2: Force login
Option 3: ignore matching emails.

This way those people that we have done business with in the past that have an old account but is no longer an active “member” can purchase tickets to events without being forced to either log in or make up a different email. We don’t want them to be annoyed and abandon their purchase because they don’t remember their login credentials and they don’t want to have to use a different email adddress. We would only care to do that if that particular event has a reason for someone to login to receive member discounted tickets.

Your response to others here that have a similar request or question is to uninstall the User Integration Extension but that is not a useful option for us. We get most complaints from people who want to buy tickets without logging in because they have an old account in our system and they don’t want to have to use a different email address.

Thanks for reading this and I hope you do decide to offer this option in a future version of Event Espresso 4.

Hi Maurice,

It’s likely we will not add these options, but we can add some filter hooks to allow dynamically change the email match in WP Users Integration. I’ll let you know when the filter hooks have been added.

The nice thing about filter hooks is they will allow for customizing the event editor to add options like the one you’ve requested here, or any other combination of this and more options. (The options can be added using native WP custom fields or a plugin like Advanced Custom Fields).

This will help keep the admin side of the plugin simple for those who do not need this or other advanced functionality, then allow developers to make the exact options they want.
