Hi – do you have a list of DB tables for EE4? Or do you have any critical DB tables that’s not named “esp_”?

I’m trying to export just the EE4 items to a different version of the website and I wanted to see what’s critical for the export. I understand all the settings are in the options_ table and I’ll end up doing the settings over again.

Thanks!

Hi Ray, at least one database table is missing from your plan so that won’t work as expected.

Event Espresso 4 stores its information in dbprefix_esp_ (wp_esp_) database tables with supporting information in native WordPress database tables like wp_posts and wp_options.

Event information and venue information are stored as custom post types so those are in wp_posts.

Settings and other information are in wp_options.

Hi, I checked with a developer and there is a possibility of some of the data no matching up if you are moving from an existing site that has Event Espresso 4 to another site that has Event Espresso 4.

Is that the case here?

We’re actually trying to rebuild the site from scratch with new themes, etc and need to clean up the database. That’s why we’re trying to start from scratch.

What if we do two things:
1) export and import all database tables in the dbprefix_esp_
2) export all the posts, pages, etc using the WP import/export plugin?

These two steps should solve the problem, correct? All the posts and the EE data should match up, right?

Hi Ray, that should work for migrating the data.

2) export all the posts, pages, etc using the WP import/export plugin?

Are you sure that would work? I think the posts/events/venues get new post IDs when imported (following the post ID sequence of the new site), breaking the connection to the wp_esp_ tables (which uses the native WordPress post IDs). I’ve never tried this, though, so I might be mistaken.

I would try to copy the entire database to the new site, and then delete the stuff you don’t need or want via the WordPress admin on the new site. Alternatively delete stuff directly in the database on the new site, but that might also mess things up.

Hi, I read the steps above as exporting the entire database and then importing it into another, thereby replacing the existing database.

Then posts and pages would be imported from another site using the WP import plugin.

I’ve noticed that various themes store their information in wp_options. You could remove any old theme settings from that database table by dropping the row or rows with the settings.
