I received my email for account access on the new website and noticed my license key number is “not active.” What does this mean? I thought purchasing Event Espresso and Recurring Events gave me an active license. How do I activate it?

The license key has not ben activated in the General Settings of Event Espresso on your website. Copy that license key and paste it into the general settings of Event Espresso (with version 3.1.24 and above) and it will activate it so you can receive one-click upgrades from your Plugins dashboard of your website.

My General Settings include Organization, Page, Email, Optional Event and reCaptcha settings. I don’t see any place to put the license key number.

You’ll likely need to update to the latest version of Event Espresso. The newest version will have a place to put in the license key number.

I was really afraid you were going to tell me that. It seems like every time I update Event Espresso, a number of things break on the website. 🙁

The cause of most issues after an update have to do with customizations that were made to the template files. While updating doesn’t override the customizations, the files that may have been customized may need to be updated if we’ve had to update any of the same files.

If you do not want to update right now, that’s fine, but you will not receive the latest bugfixes and features that we’ve been working on.

I updated all the plugins from Event Espresso that I am using and have two problems. One covers this thread here so I will ask about it here.

I’ve got this warning at the top of my Event Espresso General Settings page:

“There is an automatic update for Event Espresso available but your Site License Key has not been set. Please go to the Event Espresso General Settings page to set your Site License Key. You can locate your license key from your account on the Event Espresso website.” (Bold text is a link)

Well, I’ve come to this site and gotten my site license key and put it in the bottom section of the General Settings page to the Support License section. I’ve put in my key and had it “save Options” and it doen’t change anything.

I need help here. Why isn’t this working?

Thanks,

Kirk

Which version of Event Espresso is active right now?

Also, make sure that you do not have any older versions of Event Espresso saved in the plugins directory.

Here is what I got.

See my screen capture here: http://www.kirktalon.com/pluginseventespresso.png

I’m also getting this in PAGE SETTINGS:

Attention!
The Secure Payment System has been removed.

If your site uses SSL to handle secure transactions. Please install the Event Espresso SSL/HTTPS plugin now. More information here.

Turn off this message?

Make sure you’ve copied and pasted the entire key into the field.

The SSL warning indicates that you had the SSL option turned on in an older version of Event Espresso.

We are now recommending using either the WordPress https plugin or the Espresso https plugin to secure the registration and transactions pages. See this guide for more info: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/espresso-sslhttps/

Can you also verify that there are not any older versions of Event Espresso in the plugins directory? (installed but not active) Please verify this by navigating to yoursite.com/wp-admin/plugins.php?plugin_status=inactive

The problem was too many blank spaces in front of the key code. Pilot error I guess. The graphics part of me gets the better of me sometimes.

Thanks for letting us know what happened. We’re looking into some ways to prevent the white space from getting pasted into that field.

Well, then if it isn’t “just me” with the problem how about a note by the key code to alert others or has most every client installed the new plugins? Hopefully you are getting more every day:-)

Not sure if it’s been a big problem thus far. We are looking at a few other solutions like a copy to clipboard link and trimming whitespace.
