You can use a sandbox account from PayPal, and put the gateway into debug mode (you’ll need to set the gateway to use the sandbox account credentials while you test). More information here:
Josh – this is a really complicated/convoluted process and I’m afraid that once I change all these setting in Paypal that I may not get them back to where they need to be. I’m not a developer. Isn’t there another way to test the event transaction? Aren’t the e-mails primarily coming from Event Espresso and not PayPal?
You can test emails via the Event Espresso > Messages > Default Message templates editor pages. Please bear in mind that in order to test a payment/transactions, you’ll need to use the PayPal sandbox (or use a live transaction and send a small amount).
You’re absolutely correct that PayPal Sandbox is convoluted, and you can avoid that mess if by using a more modern payment gateway like Stripe.
