We restored it back to January 2, 2024, but it still had a plugin error
which we could not fix unless we disabled the plugin by renaming the
plugin folder in the server. The plugin causing problems is the
event-espresso-core-reg plugin. Their recommendation to fix the error is
to reinstall the plugin which you should be able to now that you can
access the wp-admin dashboard.

I have tried to reinstall but still cannot get the website back functional.

elementsartcenter.com
WordPress 5.6.12 running X theme.

Can you give us more information about what happen. You mention that you did restore it back?, whats the EE version you are using. Where you able to point a plugin conflict?

Enabling plugin one by one? I think you already did this since you tried to rename “plugin” folder. Try to enable EE first then enable other plugin. If theres no plugin conflict, you can check theme conflict.

Can you also share the error log? Also, we will be needing your EE versoon, php version, wp version.

Thanks

After the button to update wordpress was hit, the entire site crashed. Dreamhost restored it to 1/2 status, but the plugin listed previously was still crashing it. ( event-espresso-core-reg plugin ) All plugins were disabled by changing the name of the plugins folder. I then went in and reinstalled a fresh copy of event espresso and tried to enable it. It starting working in maintenance mode and when I followed the steps to backup and update the database it resulted in error. It might be due to originally having EE3 installed instead of EE4 which was available to download instead of Version 4.10.46.p.

Previously installed EE version: Version 4.10.46.p
Newly installed EE version: Version 5.0.11.p
WordPress 5.6.12 running X theme.

Hi there,

May I ask what the link in the first post is in relation to, please?

Is that the specific error you are getting on your site?

It might be due to originally having EE3 installed instead of EE4 which was available to download instead of Version 4.10.46.p.

Can you expand on this?

You have an EE4 license so you’ll have access to EE4 rather than EE3.

So did you recently install EE3 after having EE4 and now you are trying to reinstall EE4? It sounds like there’s been a lot happening on the site but we don’t have those details so the above doesn’t help troubleshoot this.

So, let’s break this down.

Right now you have EE4 installed, correct?

And that the version on the site is 5.0.11.p, correct?

I assume it is currently disabled, correct?

When you enable it the site shows there has been a critical error? If so that will save the ‘full’ error within the servers PHP error logs, we need that full error to be able t troubleshoot this.

May I ask what the link in the first post is in relation to, please?

The post was from the message dreamhost sent me to help get the site back online. They said a plugin at the time was preventing the page from loading. Here is the context:
“It took us longer than expected to get the website restore working. We
restored it back to January 2, 2024, but it still had a plugin error
which we could not fix unless we disabled the plugin by renaming the
plugin folder in the server. The plugin causing problems is the
event-espresso-core-reg plugin. Their recommendation to fix the error is

Is that the specific error you are getting on your site? No, it was just a reference page that they sent me.

It might be due to originally having EE3 installed instead of EE4 which was available to download instead of Version 4.10.46.p.

Can you expand on this? I was not sure at the time if I had previously been running EE3 or EE4. It’s been a while since I looked at the website. I believe now I was running EE4 since that is what my support license is for.

You have an EE4 license so you’ll have access to EE4 rather than EE3. OK

So did you recently install EE3 after having EE4 and now you are trying to reinstall EE4? It sounds like there’s been a lot happening on the site but we don’t have those details so the above doesn’t help troubleshoot this. No, nothing has changed on the site in years. All I did was press the update wordpress button. Then everything froze and I could no longer reach the WP-admin screen. Dreamhost restored the page and then disabled the plugin folder.

So, let’s break this down.

Right now you have EE4 installed, correct? Yes

I assume it is currently disabled, correct? I did a fresh install and enabled it.

No, the plugin goes into maintenience mode. I then follow the instructions and get a Data Migration Error.

Data Migration Error
Your last Database Update had a fatal error and was halted.

Table ‘elementsartcenter_com.wp_acx5h9_esp_currency_payment_method’ doesn’t exist

The post was from the message dreamhost sent me to help get the site back online. They said a plugin at the time was preventing the page from loading. Here is the context:

A little odd for them to send a random thread in relation to this, unless they found the fatal being thrown and ended up on that thread.

For now I’m going to side line that part as it could be completely unrelated and just lead us all down the wrong path. We can revisit if needed.

I was not sure at the time if I had previously been running EE3 or EE4. It’s been a while since I looked at the website. I believe now I was running EE4 since that is what my support license is for.

Ok, so working on EE4 and not swapping between versions.

No, nothing has changed on the site in years. All I did was press the update wordpress button. Then everything froze and I could no longer reach the WP-admin screen. Dreamhost restored the page and then disabled the plugin folder.

What I was referring to is the update, failed update, a site restore by Dreamhost, plugin deactivated, a suspected EE3 reinstall (turns out likely not), a suspected EE4 reinstall (seems so), a migration which is now a failed migration and a fatal….

Those are all listed in the above 2 posts, there’s a lot gone on recently here but we didn’t have details of what has/had not happened.

But right now, you have the latest version of EE4 installed and you’re getting a fatal on the migration, that we can work with.

I did a fresh install and enabled it.

Ok, great.

No, the plugin goes into maintenience mode. I then follow the instructions and get a Data Migration Error.

Hmm, the migrations already handle the situation where the table doesn’t exist so that shouldn’t be thrown.

I’d like to take a close look at the database, away from the live site, would you be ok with me cloning the live site locally to see what is happening?

Ok, so can you install Updraft on the site?

Go to Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add new plugin

Search Updraft, install and activate this plugin – UpdraftPlus: WordPress Backup & Migration Plugin

The free version is more than capable in this situation.

It is now installed and activated.

Awesome, I was going to ask you to create a backup and send it over, but its much easier for me to download it directly from the site itself rather than hosting it.

If you can send temp login details over using this form:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

I can generate a backup and install it locally from there.

If you prefer to do it yourself that’s fine just let me know and I’ll walk through it.

Hopefully we can get the plugin back up and not lose any of the upcoming events. Customers are asking.
