I a new to EE (using EE3) and having a lot of trouble trying to set up a system for class registrations. I have a class that runs for 6 weeks – every Wednesday. If I use the recurring event registration add-on and set up 6 recurring events then each event displays and I get 6 listings. So Dean suggested moving the event_list.php and the event_display.php to the templates directory to remove the recurring events from displaying.
That worked fine except the Add to Cart disappeared as did the featured image in the event on all of our events (whether or not they are recurring) and I need for our users to register to multiple events (which is why we can’t use EE4 yet)

I tried to set up a class as six separate events (not recurring events) so that I could get it to display on the calendar but that still presents the problem of displaying the same thing on the listing as there is no way for me to easily supress the other instances.

I set up the class once specifying a start date and an end date that was in April but that messes up the calendar as I get a class that spans 6 weeks and not one that shows up for 6 weeks on every Wednesday. So if there is a way to tweek what is shown on the calendar easily (i have numerous classes to enter) then that would be great.

I tried to use the custom templates and the css_dropdown option but somehow that isn’t working and I just get an empty dropdown list.

Using a CUSTOM_VIEW arranges the information in a table which is better but I still have every instance of the classes showing up and really all I want is to display this once with one registration.

So any suggestions? We have all the other components of our site pretty much sorted out but this is a real problem.

Hi Michal,

So just to confirm, you only want to display a single instance of a recurring event series on an event listing page?

As you have found the event-registration page (the page containing [ESPRESSO_EVENTS] will list all of your events regardless and it is not possible to alter this easily.

However it is possible to use another event list page, within this page you can use the [EVENT_LIST] shortcode which will also allow you to set a category to be displayed. So you can display the first event from any series you create along with any other event you wish to display to a cateogry such as ‘public’ then call that category on the new event list page.

So I’ll run through how I would do this and see if it suits your needs.

First I would create a category called Public. Do this within Event Espresso -> Categories. http://take.ms/zXdXI

Then I would create a new page in my example ‘Event List Public Catgory’ but it can be anything you prefer, within that page I would add something like this:

[EVENT_LIST category_identifier=public-1426073652]
(That’s me public category identifier, yours will be different)

Then any event I want to display publicly will need to be added to that category – http://take.ms/5ELoF

The event-registration page is still required by event espresso (and will continue to display all events), but you can simply remove it from any navigation menus so users don’t navigate to it manually.

Here is how my event list page looks – http://take.ms/dkc8c

I only have the first event from a recurring series of 30 events in the public category, so that’s all this is displayed.

Event registration still displays them all – http://take.ms/yftfa

Will that work for you?

That works for the events page but then I am not sure it works on the calendar if we have filtering set up. We would want to display all occurrences of the event on the calendar (this is where I get stuck as I tried a different category solution).
Is it possible to link categories and basically change the code so when I display category class (what you called public) I also load category class_hidden??

Thanks!

Michal

Hi Michael,

Apologies for the delay I’ve been looking at different ways to achieve this.

Just to check when you mention this:

I need for our users to register to multiple events (which is why we can’t use EE4 yet)

Do you mean multiple different events or the ability to register on say 3 separate instances of one of the recurring events?

If the latter EE4 allows you to do this so just checking, if you require registration on to multiple different events then that’s not available within EE4 yet.

As you were happy with the REM templates (the event_list.php and event_list_display.php files your used previously) apart from the lack of feature image and MER links, it appears the best fix for this is to include those within the REM Template.

That would look something like this – http://take.ms/hL2Aq

Would that work?

Is it possible to link categories and basically change the code so when I display category class (what you called public) I also load category class_hidden??

Do you mean to remove the ‘Public’ category from the dropdown and click-able links above the calendar?
